Scope for my Rem 700 V in 7mm-08

Looking for a scope for my 7mm-08-- I am looking in the $300 range--Matte Finish-- I want a 4-16 power(or close) --Would like a 50MM if possible-- Looking @ a Weaver Grand Slam in 4.5-14 x 40 and a Classic V 4-16 x 42-- would also consider a Leupold or Nikon (thought about the 4-12 prostaff)-- however I have not found anything close to that $300 price

Looking for best value--dont mind paying a few bucks more-- but I can not break the bank at this point

look at the luepold 4-12 varix 1 at about $300, they are good and the guarntee is unlimited.

In addition to the ones you have listed, you might want to consider looking at or buying a Sightron 4-16 also. Very good glass for the money and a good warranty also. WD

If I were on a budget like that for a good 4-16X50 scope. I think the best bang for your buck is the newly released Pentax Game Seeker 30mm scopes. They used to only make them with 1" tubes and the optics were still outstanding for the price with the smaller tube. So you can bet that the new 30mm tube scopes are even better. Plus they added side focus, rear eye piece focus, and target turrets to the new Game Seeker line which is a huge PLUS! You can get one in 4-16X50mm with a 30mm tube, side focus, and target turrets for under $200. You could even get a 6-24X50mm with identical features for about the same price.

If I only had $300 to buy a scope and wanted nice optics with all the "bells and whistle's" that's where I'd spend my money. You'd be hard pressed to find a better scope even if you were willing to spend $500.

I had a Game seeker a few years ago it came in the box with one of the turrets locked up-- but based on that info I may have to give them one more try.

I think for the money they are definitely worth a try. Make sure you buy it from a reputable company that provides no questions asked returns. Then if something is wrong or you don't like it send it back. I'm really thinking about getting 6-24X50 for my next varmint rifle.

I've got several Pentax scopes including the Gameseeker with the 30mm tube and am very happy with their performance. I would recommend them to anyone. It does not hurt that my son works for Pentax and the employee discound goes a long way to make them even more affordable. ;D

I went with the Pentax 4-16 X 50 30mm--I got it off amazon for $159-- Talked to the guy @ pentax he assured me I would be happy--We will see

I think you made a good choice for your budget price range. I haven't found many, if any, scopes that compare in that price range. And even though I haven't tried the new 30mm GS scopes (only played with the old 1" GS scopes), I'm sure you'll be happy with the purchase. Let us know how it turns out when you get it.

I have the 4-16 SF Monarch on a walking varminter and as has been commented on by other forum members, it goes to pieces optically above say 14 power. It's basically fine under that and certainly OK mechanically but it's no top-end scope optically.

You might want to seriously consider calling Nikon and sending this thing back in for a check up. I've got and have owned quite a few Nikons and this issue you describe just simply doesn't happen if they are properly adjusted and in otherwise good working order. Especially on that model. WD

I was a bit surprised too but on a thread somewhere, there were at least two others with the same experience!

Call me lazy but it's not such a biggie that I can't live with it. If it were on a more serious gun, that would be a different matter

I brought a monarch home it was o.k. I took it back and got a v x 3 for a bit more money and it was a HUGE improvement. Just a great scope! And its made right here in Oregon and I will pay more for that.

Hate to burst your bubble, but your Leupold VX3 scope is "ASSEMBLED" in Oregon. It is "MADE" overseas in Asia...China I believe. Nikon is made in the Phillipines.

Hmmm....might have to purchase one of these Pentex scopes in 30mm just to see how it works. Price sure is right...anyone try the 6-24 yet to see how clear it is on the highest power?

Well I got the new Pentax today-- It is about the same level as my Millet scopes-- It is not new the scope as the Weaver Nitrex TR One I bought for about the same money-- I will do fne on this rifle until I see how it shoots-- If it shoots well I will upgrade the scope.

I think it was worth the $159

Yeah they are nice for the money. The nice thing is that they have all they features of the higher end modern scopes of today. Make sure you adjust your rear eyepiece and side focus for appropriate distances to get the best optical picture. I'm sure you know that, but many people seem to forget about the adjusting the rear eyepiece before judging a scope's optical clarity. Hope you like it. Take care

Has anyone got the Pentax Gameseeker with the Precision Plex reticle? I would like to know how it compares to the Leupold Varmint reticle? Much thicker, or thinner or the same? Really difficult to get any info on the reticles. If there is a site where Pentax actually gives the dimensions, it would be appreciated.
