scope for my nephew

need a scope for around 300 bucks. parallax adjustment. 20 power at least. target turrents. he shoots 22-250. trying to get him into ground hog hunting. need the best one possible. i told him i'd match what ever he spent and he's looking at spending bout 150. farmer is cutting fields as we speak. ;D

Look for a good used Weaver 24X or 36X T series scope. There's a number of them out there. Check the Classifieds here or on BR Central etc. $ 350 - $400 NEW, $300 or a bit used. A Weaver V 6x24 New is $325 or so. Good buys for the money, ECSPECIALLY the T series.

model 12, take a look at this Nikon 6 x 18 from Midway. I have used it on my 22-250 for several years. It has all the features your nephew is looking for except it's only 18 power. I wish we had the weather to allow the farmers to cut the fields here in NY. The hay is waist high and it seems to rain every other day.

model 12 toby: For groundhog work you might want to consider a variable power, not a fixed, especially not anything above 20x. Your field of view will be very small for the closer shots, and you'll spend (and waste) a lot of time trying to find that small target at any distance closer than about 200 yards. I don't even like a fixed 12x, but prefer variables in the 4-12x to 6.5-20x range. If you're talking about all your shots being at longer distances ( 400 and beyond?), then yes, a 24x to 36x would work, but again, not for those sometimes unexpected close shots. A lot of good choices out there, the 6.5-20x Leupold being one of my favorites but a little above your $300 limit.

M12 I own a small sporting goods store in Id and am always up to helping out a kid!
I can get you a NEW Nikon 6.5-18x40 mat. # 60558 Plex The BDC same scope is about $5. more. To your door for about $290 to $300 depending on shipping.
This is my cost so only a 1 shot deal. If you are interested or cant find a used scope pm me for details.
I am going to Ks for a week leaving the 2nd so a phone call may work to. East mountain sports 208-315-3229 store cell I normally have it with me
Good Luck on your hunt Kevin

IMO, that's a great optic for learning the fundamentals of applying SFP reticles for longer range shooting. The mil-dot in that optic is cald. for 12x and at 18 (where i like to apply it) it's 66% of the mil subtension (12/18x3.6=2.4) or 2.4 inch per hundred yds. between dots--perfect subtension for windage reference and reticle-rangefinding, IMO and the dot becomes ~ a 1/2" instead of std. mil-cald ~ 3/4ths". The turret is 1/8th IPHY and i run turret for elevation, reticle for windage and have made some calcd. 1st-shot connections on praire dogs with the little 17 Fireball above at ~500 yds. in <10 mph winds even with the lowly 25 Horn. HP.

you may want to look at the clearidge xp 6.5-20x40 its a great scope for the money. The guys over at rimfire central introduced me to them and we've got one on a cz .204 its very clear and repeatable. I would go as far as to say its a close second to a leupold vx3 6.5-20x40 if not equal.
