I'm building an F-Class gun using a Gary Eliseo R5 repeater stock and want to use a scope. Any suggestions as to what type is most popular? Thanks Jim in California

I'll second Monte's recommendation!

To add some specifics, I'd recommend their BR model in either 8-32x or 12-42x. The 1/8 MOA clicks will come in handy with the new smaller F-class bull. The reticle choice is personal, but I will say that because F-class is shot on a KD course a rangefinder style reticle is not necessary.

I use a nightforce 12x42 with very fine cross hairs on my RPA 6mmBR ..... beautiful scope - wont get anything better in my opinion!

I know the Nightforce is a great scope, I have two of the Benchrest 8x32's. I was hoping to get something a little cheaper. Guess you get what you pay for. Thanks Jim

Cheaper, eh?

The SS16X42 scope from www.swfa.com has treated me pretty well. 30mm tube, gobs of elevation/windage adjustment,110+ MOA), clicks that actually move as advertised, nice big clearly marked turrets... $300.

Another one that some folks like is the Weaver T-series... either the T-24,fixed 24x) or the T-36. A touch under $400, decent glass, good movements.

HTH,

Monte

There's the new Leupold 25X or 30X Target scope. When they come in, SWFA.com will be selling them for $599.95. This is quite a bit less expensive than the side-focus 8-25 LRT.

That 3/8 Minute Dot's going to be a bit big for long-range use, but I bet Leupold can change the reticle on request.

OPTICS--New 25X and 30X Leupold Target Scopes: Leupold has released two new lightweight, fixed-power Target Scopes, the FX-III 40mm AO Silhouette series. Both scopes have a 1" main tube, front-adjustable 40mm objective, and target turrets. The 25X version is suitable for Benchrest and Silhouette competition, and weighs just over 14 ounces. The 30X version offers more magnification, and it is a much less expensive alternative to Leupold's Competition Series 30mm scopes. FX-III models offer a choice of 3/8 Minute or 1/2 Minute Target Dot reticles, and fully-coated, index-matched lenses. MSRP for either 25X or 30X FX-IIIs is $749.99. We expect the street price to be around $600.00.

I've sent two Leupolds back to the factory for not tracking right...

My SS16X42 tracked right *before* being in the trunk,on a rifle in a soft case) of a car that was totalled in a frontal collision... and while it needed re-zeroed, it still tracks fine.

To each their own.

Sure, Leupold will be Very HAPPY to change out the reticle for $199.00 + $15.00 for shipping! No Thanks!

Let's see, spend $850+ on a VX-III 8.5-25x-50mm and pay an extra $215.00 to get a reticle that you want because they don't offer it in the first place. Now try selling that scope it will never bring more that $700.

I know of Nightforce scopes,NXS 12-42x56mm) that are 4+ yrs old that are selling like hot cakes for $1350-$1500 I have been buying them,up to this year) for $1700.00 with any reticle that I wanted.

Might want to look at a Burris Black Diamond or a XTR,tacticle model). Good glass, side focus, "forever warranty", & USA made. The 8-32X-50mm Black Diamond has 39" total elevation adjustment, but with a 20 moa, or better yet, a 30 moa base, it ought to get you to 1000 yards. The highest power XTR,tacticle) is 6-24X-50mm, I believe. I think the XTR's have more adjustment.

Milanuk is right on the money about the Weaver scopes. I have had a number of them and I don't know how they only sell for $400. They track very well and optics are excellent. They are also dfairly lightweight which helps when you want to watch your rifle's weight in F-class. You won't be sorry buying a Weaver T-series. The only downside is that it is not a variable powered scope.
