Scope edge blackout on sightron SIII

I was just about to mount my used(new to me) sightron siii scope when I noticed that the top left quadrant of the scope has some distortion. I've looked through it many times to make sure it wasn't just me looking at a bad angle and it definitely appears to have a blackout on the edge. Basically whenever I'm at perfect eye relief, the edges on all other quadrants are sharp and the top left is blurry and covers where the "sharp edge" should be. It shows this from 10x all the way up to 50x

I tried to capture this with my phone but the pictures don't do it much justice. The reticle was changed at one point so I'm wondering if something is slightly misaligned on the inside? Is this common with these scopes?

Saul,

I have to ask the obviously stupid question: Did you focus it for your eyes? If you did, and the problem is still there, send it back to Sightron for service.

I went through the full spectrum on the ocular focus and also parallax and problem still persisted. I'm ganna give sightron a ring tomorrow. I noticed that the problem is the worst at lower power and decreases at around 30x but is still present

This is not distortion - it is called "Vignetting" (pronounced vin-YETTING), and it is a shadow caused by some light path restriction - probably the elevation is all the way up or down.
I get on my B&L on my 50BMG because it has 145 MOA of elevation, and when it is all the way down (100 yds), or all the way up (2900 yds) I see the shadow.

I never even thought to check the turrets. Makes perfect sense though. I will give it a look once I get home

On the subject of the reticle, it was changed by sightron

This was the issue. Good call by you and mysticplayer. I guess that's just the nature of the scope? That's not something that can be corrected I assume

If you are in a store with a variety of scopes, look through them at the optical center, then push to the "corners" - max elevation and/or Windage. Try this at various magnifications.

I think you will find the vast majority showing some loss of image quality at the extremes... some dramatically so.

Sightron is one of the best at controlling this and allowing the shooter to use the full range of travel. I have tested a few scopes from popular brands that image quality tanked (ie blurry) within that last rotation of travel.

Give it a try ....
