Scope Clarity and Brightness

My passion is Benchrest, not competitively but for the fun of seeing those tiny groups and Lording it over my buddies who shoot with me.

I have been using mostly Weaver 36 and Leupold 45 power scopes. I also have one Golden Eagle scope. As I usually only take one rifle at a time to the range, I really had not noticed a difference in brightness and clarity between the three.

Yesterday, I had the chance to compare them. First, the weather was really bad. Heavy rain and dark clouds. Shooting my 6BR with the Leupold 45, my 85 year old eyes had trouble getting a good view of the target. It was very dark. On the other hand, the Golden Eagle was as clear and bright as on a sunny day. I always shoot it on the 45 power setting so it was a bonafide comparison.

I am asking if there might be any other 45 power scopes out there that are very good at light gathering in comparison with the GE.

Nick,

The Sightron 45X45 SIII ED is a great scope and a super good value on top of it. After you purchased you that T36 from me, I needed a scope for my Anschutz 1413. I put my GE on it, just to see how it would work. It worked great, but it's really overkill for shooting rimfire at 100 yds. So I looked around and after considering several, I decided on the 45X45 for several reasons. 1) I already owned an 8-32X56 SIII which I like really well, 2) the "ED" glass was very appealing, 3) the parallax adjusts to 15 M so I can shoot it indoors in the winter, 4) it was a really good value from @Lance here on AS.

I've shot it outdoors at a 100 yds. in competition twice so far and couldn't be happier.
