Scope choice for F/TR

What scope would be a good choice for 1000yd F/TR target rifle.
I want to start a new build and I see alot of guys say you can use up to a varaible 45 power scope.
I am wondering what brand of scope most of you guys use.
I have searched the WWW and have not found what I am looking for.

Thanks
Bench

Most guys are running a 12-42 Benchrest Nightforce. The Nightforce 12-42 NXS is also good. For less money the 8-32 Sightron or 10-50X Sightron.

The high-end March variable scopes are great, but very expensive. Likewise the 10-50X Schmidt and Bender is excellent, but very expensive

For a single power scope the 40X Leupold Competition has been used with success by many folks.

Premier boosted Leupolds 20-50x50mm LRT work also as they are lighter than a NF, that 18.15 lb. weight limit can kill ya.......

March 10x60. Most of the time i keep it between 45 and 50 power. In the early morning when its cool and not a lot sun i use 60x. If i had it to do over i would get a March 5x50 with the 35mm tube

I shoot F/TR and F Open with two different rifles, using one Nightforce NXS 12-42. I use Ken Ferrell one piece picatinny bases. Mounting the scope is quick with no loss of accuracy thanks to Burris Signature Zee rings and a handy torque wrench. I keep the data for each rifle and load in a Sinclair scope booklet. Just dial in the zero yardage and shoot.

Lesley, could you tell us more of why or what your experiences are with the March Scopes that to do over you would pick the 5 to 50 power with the larger diameter scope tube over the 10-60 March you presently use.

I am interested in a 5-50 or possibly the 10-60 and would just like to hear from shooters that are using them. Since so few are around to actually have a look through them before laying down some big money.

My new F-TR gun has a Weaver T-36 for cost and weight reasons. I see lots of F-TR shooters use that scope locally also. If you get a variable, one advantage of the Sightrons over the Nightforce BR or NXS is weight and cost: they are about half a pound lighter than the Nightforces, and about 2/3rds the price. In exchange for the savings, you give up on the variety of reticles available on the Nightforce — I'm partial to the NP-2DD and Sightron offers nothing similar, for example.

This kills me too. I'd love to shed 1/2 a pound of NF and add it someplace else, but I've really come to like this retical

I looked through a Schmidt & Bender 12-50x56 PM II ... [gstaylorg]

VERY heavy as well as expensive. OK on an 'Open' rifle, but you give up too much barrel metal and/or bi-pod weight in F/TR.

I like the NP-2DD reticle a lot too, but have nevertheless gone for Sightrons over Nightforces because of the weight saving. The new LRMOA reticle in the 8-32X56 model is a very good one for F, the hash marks 2-MOA apart at 32-power.

March is THE scope for the discipline if you can afford it. Here in the UK, one March 10-50 or 60 = 3 x Sightron 8-32s in financial terms.

+1 on the Sightrons - variable power is a must in my book and great scope for the money. If money is no object then it is hard to beat the Night Force.

For the US F-T/R Team, 90% of the shooters are running Nightforce 12-42x56 NXS. The glass quality is outstanding, and $1K+ less than March or S&B. Variable power is important, so one can use max zoom in the AM when mirage is down, then gradually crank down the magnification as the day warms, and mirage builds. I personally prefer the NP-R1 or NP-R2 reticle, but I've seen all sorts of reticles used.

The first is i hardly ever use 60x on my scope. The 5x50 i have look through had the ED glass in it and with the bigger tube it seemed to have a little sharper image at high powers. Dont get me wrong i love my 10x60 and will keep using it. I put my 2 nightforce scopes on hunting rifles.

I have two F T/R rifles. One has the 12-42 NXS and the other, a March 10-60. I like the NF, but the March saves me 10 ounces that I can put into barrel or bipod. It also has better glass. The eye relief is more critical with the March though.
