Scope choice for 600 yd f class

Looking at several scopes to get started in 600yd F class. The 3 contenders so far are the SIII Sightron 8-32, 10-50 and the NF BR 12-42.

Is 32 power adequate for the distance? Not much price difference for the 10-50 though.
Is the quality of the NF markedly better than the SIII? I have seen varying opinions.

Also, which reticle is preferred.

Sightron 10-50, MOA Reticle would be my choice but Mil Dot or Target Dot work, usually around $750-$800 used here on the Forum.

My choice, very happy with this. Used a 6-24x50mm Vortex Viper for awhile. Wish I had purchased the GE to begin with.

I have sightron 10-50s, 3 of them... Id shoot with them and feel fine... I use a march high master though. no dinging sightron for me, I have 4 sightron scopes total. very happy with them.

For the money you have a hard time betting a Sightron Slll 10-50, I shoot both a 10-50 Sightron and a NF BR 12-42 at 600 yard F open matches. I get better results with the Sightron.

Tactical wholesalers has the non IR 10-50 for less than 900. Cheapest I've found. After doing a search they seem legit.

It all depends on how much $$$$ you want to spend. One of the best shooters I know uses 25 power for 1000 yards. Reticle is another personal choice. I like a MOA hash and others I know hate them and shoot dots or just a plaino crosshair. My suggestion is look through as many as you can, bite the bullet and buy the one you like. Pay once, cry once and be happy.

in addition to the Golden eagle, I have 4 Sightron 10-50x60 scopes. they are great scopes. however, it used to be you could catch them on special for about $800. they are now $900 plus, minimum. For a bit more, i thing the Golden a better scope overall.

The vortex and the SIII are good scopes,I have a S3 in the classifieds for sale I just prefer a scope with hash marks since I’m familiar with running them in mil/mil so I chose the GE with the ecr reticle.

Sightron lll 10X50, Vortex GE, Nightforce 12X42 Benchrest all are very good scopes and will serve you well for F class 600 yd matches. One thing to consider with all these scopes is their weight. Nightforce Benchrest is the heaviest then the Sightron and last the Vortex GE. Take this into account when trying to make weight for a piticular class.

32 is marginal. I shot a 300 yd match on old yellowed paper targets where I couldn't quite see the lines clearly with 36x

As you mentioned the price difference to the 50 isn't that much, not enough to justify living with 32

I have the SIII and I don't know how more expensive scopes could be better.

You will be hard pressed to outperform a 12-42 NF BR. Yes they are all great optics...

My vote goes to the BR or the Vortex GE.

The Golden Eagle does not have a Zero Stop, one thing that I wish it did. But I have not had an issue returning it to zero as the turret is easy to read.

I have seen somewhere where a Zero Stop was added to a different scope by placing a nylon washer under the turret to essentially act as shims to create the Zero Stop. Seemed easy enough to do. Thinking about trying it myself on my GE. Not sure if it will work on the GE but worth a try.

I think you want at least 40x. Other than that, those three are all good. I’d pick based on price and reticle, which is very much a matter of personal preference

One's budget can dictate what to buy. For under $1000, it is hard to beat the Sightron 10-50X; while the $1200-$1500 range is represented well with the Golden Eagle (12-60X) or the Valdada 36X BR w/ MOA reticle, or the 12-42X NF BR.. If price is not a limiting factor, the Kahles 10-50X MOA model K is very good as is the S&B. If one has enough $$ and can tolerate 3 pounds of weight, the Valdada Terminator 12-52X.

Trying to keep it under $1000 if possible. Reason I asked about the nf versus sightron. Not a deal breaker if the quality difference is that great but it doesn't sound like it.
