Scope Base

Hi Everyone,
Have a question about putting a scope base on my receiver, (Rem40x), My question is should i bed the base to the receiver. Base is a NightForce one piece steel with 20moa, Rings are NightForce X-treme steel. Any advice would be helpful.

None of mine are bedded. It probably does a better job if the fit isn't right. Mine are all custom actions and bases, so the fit is good. If it tightens without rocking you should be OK. Matt

Walt, To me there is no cut and dry answer to your question.... I check each one. Some I have to bed and some I don't. It just depends.

Thanks for the reply's, The NightFoerce base fits nice no rocking and the base has a little lip to prevent it from moving forward.

Do you have the means to verify that mount system and scope are concentric to barrel? I have found that a boresighter/collimator like the bushnell 74-3333 tool is a great aid in scope mount setups and for diagnosing problems.

There are a number of fine picatinny rails out there. I thought the NF rail was a bit on the light side. The best I've seen were made by Near Mfg of Canada.

Saw this on YouTube so it must be gospel! Guy tightened down the back screws, (with the front screws completely off) and pushed down on the front of section of the base...Solid. Then he removed the back screws, inserted the front screws, tightened them down, pushed down on the back portion and you could hear the base hitting the action as he pushed down. Long story short...He bedded the base and no more noise.
