Scope base question

I feel like this is a silly question, bit I've never encountered this before. So here goes.

I am looking at an EGW 1 piece scope base for an action. A 20 MOA base is half the price of what I've found a 0 MOA base for. Initially, all I plan to shoot this rifle at is 100 yards, so I don't need the 20 MOA built in.

What are the odds that I'll be able to dial my rifle in at 100 yds with the 20 MOA base? Again, I've never tried this before, so perhaps it's a silly question.

Thanks for looking.

I've not purchased a scope yet. New rifle, new to me cartridge, new rifle. 7mm-08, factory barrel. Might shoot well enough I leave it alone, might be a turd and it could wind up being just about anything in the .308 case family.

I had a long action 700 on a 65# LRBR heavy gun with a 20 MOA base that I could not zero at 100.

I used the NXS 12-42 scope 2 MOA line to zero.

This got tiresome because I sometimes forgot when doing load development at 100 yd so I changed to a 0 MOA base at the first barrel change.

I could have used a 10 or 15 MOA base but didn't need it since I had a 400 MOA ultra long range base for ELR....out dated by today's technology but worked fine in that era.

Should work out fine. I have done it many times and never had an issue.

I buy quite a bit from EGW.

Kinda surprised to hear that the zero MOA base is less expensive than a 20 MOA base.

You might want to give a call and ask about it.
They are good people and answer the phone.

You can get some rings with the plastic inserts you can rotate and make them I believe plus or minus 20 or. More degrees up or down.

It was an online purchase from a distributor. I found another distributor eventually that has the same price, so I'm going that route.

I appreciate the replies. Thanks everyone.

I like to lap my rings, so inserts aren't on my radar. Someday I may find a situation where they are the only obvious solution and I'll try them, but so far, I haven't seen that.
I also like to bed my bases and not everyone finds that necessary, either.
Different situations require different solutions is all I have noticed.

Depends on how much elevation travel you have in your scope. The NF 15-55x competition can easily use a 20MOA rail and still zero at 100 yards.

I have a 20 MOA base on my 6BR with a 30mm Leupold 6-24x scope. I can zero at 100yds no problem.

How much more is the 0moa?

If you buy an EGW scope rail be sure to buy the HD version. It is made of stronger aluminum and has the full slots cut.

Shouldn’t be a problem at all.
I only buy 20 moa.
And yes EGW I have found to be great.

I go direct to EGW for my purchases.
Buy base and rings at the same time and they knock off 10%.

Check out their Keystone line of rings!
These things are seriously stout!

I've got a bunch of their Hunter series and the standards.
All are a solid piece with full width cuts.
Never had any issues with any of them.
