Scope base and rings? Shooting Position?

I'm kind of new at Benchrest Competitive shooting. I have read alot on this Forum and other sites. I have Savage 12 F/TR in .223 cal. a Sightron 10-50x60 scope all new with app. 120 rounds down the barrel. My scope base is a one piece standard Leupold and Leupold 30mm extra High Rings. The front of scope clears the barrel by about 1/16". Question is What would be a better choice on base and rings? The scope is as far back as rings will allow. I want to set this up to be able to shoot benchrest from 100 yds and up. What I find now is that to see properly thru scope I have to lean over the stock and place my cheek on the comb. This is fine when shooting with your buddy or hunting, but competitive shooting I just want to touch the trigger guard and trigger with shoulder close to butt. What are my options? Diff. base or what? The bolt is still clear of the scope by a inch or so.

First, adjust your eye relief. This should get you where you need to be. Folks with glasses will position their scopes differently than those that don't need glasses.

Your action will determine what scope base, but most will accommodate a Badger base and Nightforce rings. If you want high end stuff, contact Warne.

Thank you "Mr. Watson". I do wear glasses but take them off when I shoot. I have always done alot of hunting both rifle and shotgun and have always held my cheek on the comb when shooting. I have shot local benchrest using a one piece gun rest for the last three years. Now I have this new setup with Caldwell BR and DR rearbag and I'm trying to shoot vertical and not so much leaning or touching stock only lightly to shoulder. Problem is the scope seems so far way. I'm still leaning over to see down the scope. What different kinds of bases would bring the scope back to me? Does anyone see what I'm trying to say?

Might want to look at Davidson style bases with Kelby type single screw rings. The narrow band of the single screw ring will allow you to position the scope back a little more and you can get an extra high ring so that unless you have serious jowls, your cheek won't touch the stock.

If you try a set of canted (offset) rings you may never go back.
They help your stiff neck, keep better eye alignment with scope instead of looking cock-eyed, keeps your earmuffs and cheek from touching the stock and allow lower rings than usual since the offset position keeps the scope off the barrel:

I always thought those offset rings were for rail guns....interesting to think of them on a normal rifle. Wouldn't the offset use of part of your windage adjustment? And if so, how much.

I have a small skull, so keeping my ear protection off the stock is a problem. I have a few scopes that tower above the barrel, and of course use up part of my elevation adjustment.

I don't think these are commonly seen on rail guns since they often have a Davidson rail mounted directly to the barrel block or rail itself and sometimes are offset for ease of use and the canted rings are made to go on a typical benchrest rifle.
I was unsure about the scope alignment also but I can go from 300 yards to 1000 without skipping a beat just by dialing in elevation and the perceived problem of alignment is not a factor for me and evidently many other shooters that use them.

Come to think of it I have seen more than a few 100 and 200 yard PPC BR shooters using a canted Davidson block that clamps to the rail on the rifle which would do about the same thing but but never have seen one for sale. Many rimfire shooters use similar offset rings/bases to keep them off the rifle for precision shooting where they shoot free recoil and don't touch the rifle.

Thanks guys. I will look into these bases and rings. I don't have alot of experience in this type of shooting so I will take all the advice I can get.
