Scenars

Just like most of us Walt, one thing at a time :) The 450's will work good for you but with the H-4895 I believe the 400's are hands down better,..don't ask me why they just are! Team Lapua does pretty good, guess what bullet there using??... just because Barry didn't have any luck it isn't wrote in stone that they won't work for you, they just didn't work for him, take care my friend and best of luck.
Wayne.

P.S Be positive when trying those Scenars or they won't work from the getgo and you might as well sell them right now!

Thanks for advise Wayne. I understand the mental aspect (although I fight with it :) ) I'm looking forward to trying the Scenar's! I'll try them regardless of Barry's results (not to say I don't value his input). The primer change (from 450 to 400) when using H-4895 is interesting... I'll definitely keep that in mind when I start playing with this stuff.

Walt,
Just to clarify I have the highest of respect for TheBlueEyedBear, I think you know what I meant but just in case I would have said that no matter who made the statement including myself, just because it didn't work for Barry doesn't mean it won't work for others but at know time do I ever dismiss what he has to say, I think Barry would agree 100%.
I also think once you try the 400's with the H-4895 you will agree with me, but of course things in your gun may vary but in the several I have been around that has held true, take care and good luck my friend.

The last few times I have bought scenars, Bruno or Powder Valley had the best pricing.........
Bruno's has been my best place for Scenars as well.

PS: Funny thing, I put my F-Tr 308 in the shop for minor adjustments.

I decided to pull out my 6.5x47 and see if the accuracy has improved since the last time I shot it!

Will shoot it this weekend!

I shot my 6.5x47 Lapua using 123 Scenars Thursday!

I also loaded up some Berger 130's.

It was very windy, I was outshooting several using the 123 Scenars, CCI 450's, and Varget!

600yds . . . My best score with the Bergers was 7 point downs from my Scenar score!

I am glad it was windy, I could easily tell the difference over the Bergers! Scenar's acted like the wind wasn't even there!

For 600 yards you should be using 139 gr scenars.

I have tried 139 Scenars, 140's, and I believe 142's

I have tried all the 130's just about, Bergers being the best 130.

For some reason, I could never find a heavy bullet I was satisfied with and had plently of help from everyone here and one other board. Erik Cortina was a great help!

I talked to one other person who's 6.5x47L loved 123 Scenars even out to 1k yds. that's all he shoot out of his gun. He also stated his gun didn't like heavy bullets.

Now you put 120smk's or 123 Scenars in my gun, and it will plain shoot! It was again proven this last Thursday as I was outshooting several good shooters with my gun and the 123's. After the third string, they actually came to me and wanted to know what I was shooting. I was "very" windy during our practice.

The barrel on my gun doesn't like high pressure with the heavy bullets, but you put 39.3 grns of RL15 behind a 120smk, it will just enlarge one hole with 5 shots! NO pressure signs!

IN fact, I spoke with two other who stated the same thing as I am stating. They were going to sell their guns, but they were so accurate with the smaller bullets, they kept them. I shoot with a person who's gun likes 140's, but he is also shooting 123's now and his gun will also shoot them as good as the 140's.

There were many post about 2 years ago now concerning this! Anyway, I am happy with it! there is also a post on gun week on 6mmbr, a person won a match shooting 120smk's with his 6.5x47L. I havn't read it in awhile, I might look it up and see if anything has changed!

This article help tremendously!

What is the twist of your barrel?

Ok, it's the good twist for this bullet.

I do not understand you do not have good results with 139 gr.

Bullets Berger are the best but are more expensive.

Good shots with this caliber. ;)

As staed earlier, I have talked to 3 others who have similiar experiences.

If I tried some of the loads they are using, my gun would blow up! I was sometimes 2 grains lower and was showing "major" pressure signs trying the heavier bullets. I got a few to shoot good groups, but with a low charge, speeds from 2.500 to 2,600fps, way to slow!

Example: If I use Varget shooting 130 Bergers, my max load is 34.9 grains. Produced app 2,550 fps. I had one other person who stated the same. If I use H4350, I can go up to 41.2 grns and shoot decent groups, just decent! Any heavier bullet is out of the question! I will chrono the H4350 and maybe play with the depth.

But I am happy with the 123 Scenars, super tack drivers! A member suggested this bullet as he had similiar issues. The Scenars is all he used for 600 and 1k now and loves them!

I was glad to see I was not the only person who experienced this with the 6.5x47L
