Scenars on Game?

At a few other sites I have read where people are using the Lapua Scenars on big game. Has anyone here had good results while using Scenars on game. Any recovered bullet pics would be greatly apreciated.

Dunno about big game but I've found that 123s out of my 6.5x47 drill straight through varmints, even at close range. You can barely get a puff of feathers or fur.

Totally different experience to what happens with 155 Sierras out of the .308

Tried them this year on a doe. Not real impressed. Shot her at 320 yards with a double lung shot, she went down about 60 yards from impact but no expansion whatsoever from what i could tell. Exit looked just like the entrance.

Lapua markets the Scenar as a competition target bullet which means they are not designed to expand on game, you would find that most target bullets like sierra match kings, Berger VLD target bullets Perform poorly on game, similar to a FMJ. Berger hunting & Varmint Bullets on the other hand are a different kettle of fish. The same as to sierra game kings..... designed to expand on game not to shoot tiny groups

There was a good thread on Long Range Hunting.com a couple years ago shot into wet phone books at long ranges and they did not expand much at all in fact a couple of the bullets looked almost like they could be shot again from what I remember.

very mixed results between caliber and weight. some work very well and some dont.

90scenar in .243 awesome

123-139 in 6.5x47L i will second the "no way!"

i'vs seen 108JLK's do super in 25-06

use berger VLD hunting or Amax/Vmax and not worry
and "most" SMK's

i used 123 sceners with my 6.5x55 on a whitetail buck this year in pa. it was prob about 200lbs and the bullet wasted the deer. one shot looked like a ton of bricks landed on it. the entry would was small but the body cavity was destroyed. i was unable to recover the bullet. small fragmets exited but mostly it fragmented and pieces were found in the spine and neck. the vitals were nothing but goo.
needless to say i was extremely pleased.

edit i am shooting them at 2800 fps.

Some guys would hate the mess as in wasted meat. I prefer like you to have a bang-flop effect but there's hopefully a middle ground where you have reliable expansion for dumping energy without the hand grenade effect :-[

Anyone tried and split a scenar in half to see the thickness of the jacket? I did this on an SMK and compared it with a Nosler BT. I can tell you that the jacket on the SMK is a lot thinner than the BT.

When I hear people say the SMK punches small hole in and small out makes me wonder how that is possible. Given that the jacket is even thinner than a BT?

Killed a 230 lb hog with a 6,5x47L 123 scenar this weekend, textbook expansion, hog went 40 yards
We use the 142smk in the 6,5x284 case and it has proven its self on deer, hog, nilgai etc.

It's too bad so many hunters blame their poor marksmanship on the bullet.

Put one in the boiler room and they are done.

Yeh, very dead, but it's the "eventually" bit you can do without. Searching round for wounded or possibly dead game is a real pain. My son totalled the lungs and heart of a decent red deer recently and it still ran 60 yds near -heavy- cover before expiring. I searched and searched for 20mins before finding it in a hollow, closer then expected.

My mate in the US tells me an old schoolmate of his got sick of deer ruining his vege garden which is in a built-up area. Apparently a subsonic rimfire through the lungs will do the biz but it takes several minutes before they bleed out internally and tip over. Not ideal I'd say..
