Scammers are on the Prowl…

See attached, this was sent to a member here, the person requesting funds got his email and pretending to be me.
I don’t think my account was hacked but clearly got the gentleman’s email. How did they get his email address. Everything we discussed about the transaction was by PM.

@gaintwist was the one being the target.

I responded to a Target camera for sale on Snipers Hide with a simple "PM sent". Five minutes later I received a private message from a guy saying that the original poster was offline and wanted me to contact him through the email that this person provided. They are just sitting and watching at all times. I no longer post want ad's because 3 out of 5 times I will get a scammer trying to take my money.

I will always say "call me", or nothing is going to happen on my end.

These people complicate and soil a great service provided in this forum. I wish I could send Buford Pusser to visit each and every internet criminal to adjust his attitude and tweak his computer system.

Anyone else think this ad smells fishy?

first thing i always do is a image search to see if the same pic shows up somewhere else. If its on another forum, awhile back, then it could be copied. Only thing i found was, it was posted here recent by a silver member. but i didnt search long.

Just the other day a member put on my listing that if I would sale an eyepiece for a Swaro Spotting that I have for sale on the forum. I guess a scammer created a profile using my username and a different email that's not even mine. And contacted the person wanting the eyepiece. The forum member got scammed. I sent him a message days later wondering if he still wanted the eyepiece, that's when he said he had already paid for it, and he had been contacted my someone else using my username. So never put that your looking or interested in something. Always send a PM first to verify identity.

How did they get his email address.
Everyone needs to stop posting emails and phone numbers in the forums and that includes on profile posts. Profile Posts are public, use Private Messages instead. This is happening across many forums right now. They dig up peoples email addresses and phone numbers off forum posts and profile posts and wait to pounce.

NEVER EVER do ANY Deal without VOICE phone call. VOICE. Repeat VOICE.

Insist on Custom Photos!! Always. That means placing the item in a completely different location with a rope or something touching it.

Request the seller's shooting club and actual physical address.

If the seller demands PayPal F&F, Venmo F&F, Zelle, Apple Pay, Google Cash -- tell them to get lost.

It is 100% against Forum rules to use F&F or Zelle -- there are Zero buyer protections.

NOTE: I am still not aware of a single individual who got scammed who made a VOICE phone call -- not text folks, not email -- CALL on the phone!!!!!!!!!!!!

An do NOT put your public phone number in your posts -- this allows the scammers to text you. But also be aware that scammers can use online databases to find your phone number if you list a full name and city.
