Scam or Good Deal????

Hey, you all really jumped on this, but then that's what friends do!! :D
I'd decided that he/she would have to send the scope first.
A good way to check would be a photo with the scope, the seller (?) and today's paper together!
Very best wishes and good shooting to all of you!

Good rule of thumb is to request pics of a very specific spot on the item or to ask for a measurement that isn’t listed in the manufacturers info. If you get an answer that is too vague or they delay, good sign it’s a scam. If they do send pics, do a google search for what you’re looking for and see if the same pic pops up. That’s my 2 cents.

You can also check the property records for the address and see who own that home. If it doesn’t match up, pretty good indication something isn’t right.

Good luck on your search.

I strongly advise that you NEVER include your phone number in a WTB post. People who are NOT vetted and who are NOT Forum members can call you, sometimes falsely claiming to be a member with a good history.

Use the PM system initially. Don't buy from non members. I spend a lot of time background checking Every new signup.

Steve,
Have it sent to a gunstore you like to act as an intermediary.

If you are unsure pay through paypal (not gift) and paypal will ensure you get refunded if the product doesn't show up.

All good advice, guys! He's going to have to trust ME and send it, but that ain't gonna happen!

Forum Boss:
You evidently spend a lot of time on this site. I think I can speak for quite a few others and say THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Best wishes,
Steve

Yes for the last few months I have done multiple checks on all new sign ups. 0ften 1 hr per day. That's 365 hours/year or NINE 40-hr weeks. All without pay. And on top of all other tasks I must do -- such as releasing 900+ stories a year. That's why membership support is vital.

Getting the scope in advance of payment is a great
idea on paper: If I was a new seller coming onto a
board full of strangers, would I send anyone of you
a $$$$ item in advance of payment???
Not on your life. If the seller declines, it proves nothing.

Was it supposed to prove something? Sending the scope before receiving payment is really no different than sending payment before getting the scope. At some point, someone has to trust someone else. In this case, it’d make a heck of a lot more sense for the seller to trust the buyer, than vice versa.

At least if the seller is legit, which is by no means a sure thing.

I used to like to watch the TV series "24" In it, the President of the United States asked the hero, Jack Bauer, why she should trust him. His reply was, "With all due respect, Ma'am, ask around"
