Scam or Good Deal????

I've had a WTB thread posted for quite a while now and have been bumping it up every now and then. I've had two inquiries that were obviously scams, but I have one now that I'm not sure of. Has anyone heard of
Charlotte Crisp,
1110 Camden Rd.
Pasadena Texas, 77502 ?

Here are the photos he sent:

Please advise me if you have any pertinent info!
Thanks,
Steve McGee

I hope it's real, I know you've been looking for one for a long time! Never heard of that person, but always a good idea to talk on the phone if you are suspicious. Ask for additional photos of very specific things on the scope that they wouldn't be able to provide if they don't actually have it. Answers like "Sorry, but I'm out of town right now" or "The scope is actually at my brother-in-law's house because I'm in the middle of moving, and he'll ship it from there" are usually dead giveaways.

As a last resort, could always just ask them to ship it to you first. I mean you're Steve frigging McGee, if they don't know who you are and that you're good for your word, then they probably aren't worth dealing with anyways! ;)

"Is Charlotte a he?.....today I guess it doesn’t matter."

Yeah, that was one of the red flags! His grammar and sentence construction wasn't as bad as the others, but still sounds a little flakey!

After my burn from POPTX40 I am very very cautious. At least it is a house at the address on Goggle Earth. Means little but a plus anyway.
The "Charlotte" I'd wonder but again possible. At least a phone call to him/her. I can't get the posts to come you provided but then again what does that mean? And I assume "Charlotte is not a site member????
For me at least too many red flags but then again I was burned.

(TXPOP40 latest about one week as a site member until the BOSS tossed him.)

BTW does the correspondence between you two at least sound like an American wrote it?

I don’t see any foreclosure or sale signs. There is a nice house there. Lawn’s cut. Ask him to send the scope before you get payment?

Just tell her/him:

I dont know much about anything except following my gut.
Maybe you should follow yours.

Now that's a good way to check on people! Bottom line is I'm going to tell him I'm well-known in the HP rifle shooting community, and I'll take it, but he sends it first!
All you have to do is get on Google and type in an address. It’s just one bit of info but at least it’s not an empty lot or derelict property. Be careful out there!

I dunno... those pics can be old!

Place I live now still looks like previous owner lives there (we bought 5 years ago), place I sold looks like I still live there.

I’d be super cautious if asked to send funds first Steve.

Always ask the seller to produce a NEW, customized photo. Such as "Put a baseball hat on the end of the scope", or "photograph the scope next to a quart of milk" -- if the seller does not have the real object, he/she cannot give you the custom image you request. Very important assurance method.

That is a great idea.

Go to the County tax records on line and see who owns that house. Go to Zabasearch.com and check her name out there in TX it should come back with a Pasadena address (It won't give the address unless you pay, but will say Pasadena). Hell google her name as well..

I checked ZabaSearch.

A quick look on Google found that she or someone with that name attended the Bauder Fashion College in Arlington, TX. It also shows she lives in Houston, TX. I checked Google and Pasadena, TX is just outside of Houston.

Based on this, I would take the advice above and ask for a picture of the scope with a object. To go one step further, you could ask for the local paper with the date showing.
