Scale Prices

I need a good scale. I used a RCBS/Ohaus 505 for years, but literally lost it in a move. I do not want anything made overseas and have been looking on Ebay at the 10-10 series thinking I should move up since I have to buy anyway.

So, what should the value of one be?

Watch out for the 10/10s if you want ro make sure and get a US made one as they are made in china now. The only way to tell is look on the box. On the scale bottom it still says made by ohaus new jersey. I think tou should be able to get a decent US made 10/10 or M5 for 80 to 100- mabie a little more for a real nice one.

Ebay has Ohaus manufactured scales on a semi-regular basis. Or call Scott Parker (Sparker on this site) and buy one he has tuned. More expensive but they preform well.

i see several on ebay in the 50bux range
rcbs 5-10 works for me mine is 30+ yrs old
older ones work just fine....
look for the older ones in the white box...usa made

I actually see a Scott Parker scale listed in the classifieds. But I can't really justify the $190 price because I don't reload at that level of accuracy. I tried to buy a really nice 10-10 Ohaus/RCBS last night. It started out at $89 and I bid it to $125 shipped, but it sold in the last 5 minutes for $166 shipped. Others, in nice shape are listed with a buy it now in the range of $150 - $225. People watch them and the bidding war starts at the last few minutes. I am thinking that I will go with a nice Ohaus made 5-10 as they are reasonably priced.

Thanks very much to all.

5-10 been workin for me for a looooong time

I bought my 10-10 off of eBay. When I first started looking prices were anywhere from very reasonable to just plain obscene. I missed a few good deals and finally won the one I have now for 110$ including shipping.
That was two months ago. People can say what they want about eBay but it is a constant source for the kind of scales that "we" are in need of, you just have to be patient and disciplined.
I will add that the more desired scales seem to be the 10-10s and M5s but just about any two poise scale in good condition will be more than adequate, especially if tuned properly. Make sure you check out the sellers' feed back and the shipping costs

if didnt get a scale yet ill add that the selling on ebay went in cycles when I was buying scales. Like Earl says if you wait awhile youll probably find one.

You won't go wrong with a good RCBS 5-10... They are just as accurate as the 10/10. They use exactly the same beam (Interchangeable). They use exactly the same knife edge/floating agate bearing set-up. They have exactly the same "approach to weight" system as the 10/10...AND - Every single 5-10 was manufactured in the USA, unlike the 10/10's, 5-0-5's or Dillon Eliminators.

I am glad to know that. One nice member here offered me a 10-10, but I had already bought a 5-10 that looked clean for $62.00 shipped from a seller with a no questions full refund policy. I think the 5-10 will be great for my level of expertise. I think I will buy some check weights to use with it.

I guess the scales on Ebay are in an up cycle in price right now, probably because I needed one! I hate bidding though and usually look for buy it now items. Prices are always higher when you need something.
