Now this is going to cause a stir in the factory gun circles at the grondhog matches...we've all waited along long time to see a factory heavy barrel offered in 6 BR..with our new rule changes it looks like it'll be legal at Mifflin...If they shoot, it will ceratinly put some stiff stiff competition for the .223 Coopers !! I think I just may buy one myself...with the new management at "BIG GREEN".. I thought for sure they would be the first respond to the need but they got upstaged again...I truely can't wait to see one shoot...GOOD JOB SAVAGE...never thought I'd say that in my lifetime...

I'm confused after reading the feature about the new 6BR Savages on the Daily Bulletin.
The article states that the LRPV,Long Range Precision Varminter) model in 6BR is going to have a detachable magazine. I've shot two LRPV's last season. One was a .204 Ruger, the other a .223 Rem. Both used Savage's single-shot Target action with three screws. They were never available with a repeater action. I would have ass-u-med that the 6BR models would be made on the same single-shot target action as the other LRPV's. The single-shot action is a lot stiffer,Savage repeater actions are easily tweaked) and feature a larger barrel tenon that accepts a larger diameter barrel. Has Savage redesigned their target action and turned it into a repeater? I wonder what gives!

The Specifications section of the 2008 Savage Catalogue on page 63 shows the 6BR will be offered in both the old LRPV single shot style & the new LRPV with right bolt, right port, & 4 shot magazine.
I hear ya Frank. Was thinking the same thing when I saw that Norma makes 6BR ammo, making it legal under the new rules. But then the new rules made the Cooper Model 16 in 6BR legal also.

The only thing that confuses me is that they are offering the long range version in slow twist only, the F-class in fast twist?? They know that alot of matches banned the 6.5/284-.223 LRPV because of it's single shot action..making them a repeater will over ride that, but I'm sure they'll change the rules.. I still think a F-class 6BR with fast twist will rule our matches...don't forget, we are now shooting the factory classes out to 500 yards also...the little .223's will be tested big time going from 300 to 500, especially with the sequence change also....
HEY...we sent our dates to St. Thomas, back in September..so we would not schedule on the same dates..I sure hope we don't have a problem this year with overlapping...Thurm, had those dates along time ago...anyone have the dates yet..hopefully it won't be like last year..we share to many shooters to schedule the same days...

WOW..that's about as many as we overlapped on last year...too bad, it can't be a good thing when we compete for the same shooters.. I sure hope they adjust a least one of the JUNE DATES...
It’s actually even. If a St Thomas shooter makes all 8 St. Thomas shoots he can still make 6 at Mifflin and 6 at Mayberry. If a Mifflin shooter makes all 10 of Mifflin’s shoots they can still make 5 at St Thomas and 5 at Mayberry. Likewise a Mayberry shooter can make all the Mayberry shoots and 7 St. Thomas shoots and 7 Mifflin shoots. St. Thomas, being so much closer to the Mayberry than Mifflin, has 2 or 3 times as many guys that shoot Mayberry than Mifflin. And like Mifflin, St. Thomas didn’t want to screw over Mayberry. So that’s pretty darn even given all that’s gotta be taken into account. No?
June 7 was a Mayberry shoot. So that wouldn’t work. Think June was the black powder shoot at St. Thomas. So the club was taken the 21st. That left only the 2 Saturdays that Mifflin had already taken. And June was the only acceptable month to get in 2 shoots if St. Thomas wanted to have their regular 8 shoots without shooting 2 weekends in a row. They had the dates of a bunch of clubs there when the dates were made. It was the best that could be come up with. There even was a little talk of Sundays like South Fork. But that flopped so bad when it was tried before that Sundays were dropped real fast.

I see no mention of Shippensburg in the whole scheme of things here in Pennsylvania so I've included a list of dates for Mifflin, St. Thomas, and Shippensburg,see attached) I would have included Mayberry which is in Maryland, but I don't have their dates. If some one could modify my list to include them it would be greatly appreciated. At Shippensburg we have only one Saturday a month available to us which is the 4th Saturday so we cannot change our dates unfortunately since we share the range with other disciplines. It is unfortunate that childish egos sometimes effects the selection of dates, since there are only so many shooters to go around. However that's the way it is, and I see no changes in the foreseeable future.
It would be nice to see cooperation with all the ranges holding Ground Hog Matches like we see in ranges holding Benchrest Matches, but with out any organization such as IBS or NBRSA being involved I don't see that happening.
With a Recession looming at our nations doorstep I think a lot of Shooters will be staying close to home and limiting thier travel for shooting so cooperation would only help everyone.

From what I hear they probably won’t have the land deal finalized in time to extend the range this year. Their site is still showing 100, 200, & 300 yards.
St.Thomas has a lot of regular shooters from Maryland and a lot of short range IBS shooters. It just wasn’t possible to consider all the groundhog & IBS shoots. So they stuck with the bigger groundhog shoots. If I was to guess I’d say Mayberry is growing and drawing 30-40 shooters, Mifflin’s running around 30, and St. Thomas averaged 57-58. Heck, St. Thomas averaged 24 shooters on last year’s Tuesday matches and is still growing. But there are 4 dates that Ship is the only shoot of the 4 and they’re 4/26, 7/26, 8/23, & 10/26.
And for Sunday shooting here’s South Fork.
