Savage varmint action with dbm?

Hey all! I just purchased a Savage varmint action with the dbm and I inked the locking lugs on the bolt and only one of them is making any contact. Mind you its probably 90-95% contact on the one but, the other is making no contact at all. The smith I work with suggested I wait till the barrel is in and we get it all put together and see if there is any difference. I'm inclined to just have him go in there and true up where the lugs lock up in the reciever then I know it is right with the world. What are you folks thoughts on this matter? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Mike

Make an appointment with Sharpshooter Supply to have your action timed and trued, and order one of their machined recoil lugs. You won't regret it, I sent my action in and it came back not only all squared off but slick as glass. SSS is the acknowledged master of Savage rifles. Also join savageshooters.com, its chock full of useful information and has a message board dedicated to Savage firearms.

Agreed. Fred Moreno of SSS is the only person that I would allow to work on any Savage in my possession :) The wait at times seems eternal, but when you get the action back, it is like a custom action has been dropped into your lap :)I have no idea what he does to these actions, but no one can do to a Savage action what Fred can do, IMO.

Guys, thanks for the advice! The smith I use is very talented, he builds precision shooting rifles himself! Not doubting Fred's capabilities and expertise but, I need this rig together soon for the soybean field woodchucks! I may do what you guys say, not ruling it out! Thanks again!

Here's a good thread listing what needs to/can be done on a Savage action if you don't send it to SSS:
