Savage Triggers

Just wondering which trigger everyone is using, Riflebasix SAV 1or 2 or SSS br or comp model looking for a range of 8 to 16ozs for an older model 12 BVSS in .223 Thanks ps this forum is the BEST

I have used the rifle basix sav 2 and it was not as good as the accu trigger it replaced. It was not consistant in pull weight, one time nice and light next shot jerk the rifle out of the bags. The SSS comp trigger is a very nice trigger and adjusts to within what you are looking for and would be my choice.

I prefer a older 110 "3 Screw" trigger with some work.... but the SSS is consistent and works well out of the box. Can pick the SSS up a lil cheaper at www.tacticalworks.com

I like the three screw or acutrigger for hunting or tactical use and the SSS for target bench shooting. Have my action in for T&T and Evolution trigger install with Fred for my new 6.5x55 can't wait to try it out.

I have the Evolution on mine now reason I didnt mention it was the op said 8 to16 oz pull and it will only go up to about 6 to 8 oz and the action has to be timed and trued by Fred. Also need to send them your stock so they can inlet for the new trigger. Saying that there is no better trigger for a Savage on the bench. It is awesome, smooth, crisp, clean and very consistant. Makes the sav2 feel like a lawyer trigger.

I have three Sav 11's on Savages. I like em. Each required just a touch of filing on the body to get them to fit snug on the action. This is fine by me as its preferable to a loose sloppy fit.

I don't have a trigger pull quage. I set all these triggers to operate reliably with least amount of pull weight possible. Two tested for pull weight after installation measure at 7ozs. Never had a chance to measure the third.

One of them occasionally feels like its sticking(greater pull weight) Someday I'll take the time to try and fix that. First I'll have to remember which one it is ;D

I've got a SSS Competition on my 6 Dasher, set at 12 oz, which is the lowest design weight, and the lightest I could get it.
Man, it breaks smooth and clean, the same pull every time.
If I keep my Savage as my long range BR gun, I'll change to the Evolution. But I may dive in w/ a full custom rifle, so I'm holding out to make that decision.
If you want 2 oz, get the Evolution. If 12 oz and up fits your needs, the SSS comp is an incredible trigger.

I worked over my ancient Savage 110 from 1957-58 with piller bedding and skim bedding . Then, i installed a Rifle Basiks SAV-2 trigger. I have it set for about 1 lb and had to do a lot of stock trimming as well as trigger guard trimming before it worked right. Now, it is about as good as the accutrigger on my 243 Win /Shilen/ Precision Target Action.

One of my 12Fs has an Evolution and full makeover by Fred. The other has a factory Target Accutrigger. The Evolution is excellent. It feels very similar to the Jewell on my 40XBR. The Target Accutrigger can be adjusted to a very good pull, it just takes patience.

My trigger criteria are: weight, creep and overtravel. Ideally, there should be no discernible movement, either before or after sear release. Even on Jewells, that is very difficult to obtain. I would rather have a little heavier pull weight if the other two were perfect.
