Savage TR rifle barrel config.

Interested in finding out heavy contor barrel options availible with the savage TR rifles, trying to find out would a heavy profile 30 inch 308 barrel with a 1 in 10 twist rate be offered along side the 1 in 13 in 30in barrel, thanks.

Do you mean from the factory? I doubt that they would do that. On the other hand, a good prefit can be purchased in that configuration and spun on to the action in no time.

Busdriver thanks for info, Been shooting ftr and f class with blaser Lrs2 308 however the barrel is only 24in which lacks the speed of the longer 30in+ barrels so looking for budget entry rifle with heavy contor barrel with 1 in 10 twist to shoot the mighty berger 185g hybrid bullet, Is the action used with savage rifle classed as good as batt and other actions thanks for info, paul t.

The Savage action is not a Bat, or any other custom action, but it's also half the cost and comes with a decent trigger. You can get the F-T/r with a 10 twist from the factory.

I apologize, I was wrong. I just looked at the website and it only comes in the 12 twist.

I looked at getting one when I bought my Remington a year or so ago, and thought it was 10.

Sorry!

I'm not sure if they really have a Custom Shop or Competition Shop like in the 80's and early 90's......

I thought that Team Savage used the 185's, maybe Monte will chime in on that......

I just shot with John and Stan a couple of weeks ago. They are both using the 155.5 Fullbore bullet. IIRC, Monte is too.

I'm using the 200 Hybrid as my primary bullet. I'm right now off on a tangent testing a different bullet, but I expect I'll be going back to the 200.

I've seen something recently. Even with my enhanced wind drift, the difference on target is really minimal. I'm picking up 1, maybe 2 points a day due to the better BC and 10" less wind drift. Either you know what the wind is doing, or you don't. If you don't, a 338 lapua won't save you. If you do, you could be shooting ping-pong balls and still hit a good score. The question is how much error does that heavier bullet allow you, and what does it cost you?
