Savage Target action fitting question

Hey guys, here is another question for you all. I am putting a savage target action into a stock that might be different model savage, but it does hav 4.4" space needed for action to bolt down. My question is the middle screw on the action does not have a hole in stock, is it in the gun's best performance to make a recessed hole in stock so I can put an action screw in it?

Bed it up without the hole and put some rounds down range.. If it's not tuning right for ya then punch a hole and bed in a pillar. I know when they first came out with the three screw action a lot of guys were taking out the middle screw and reporting awesome groups. On the other hand, some guys were torquing each of the three screws different amounts and using it like a tuner with great results..

I had the same situation with a HS precision alum vee block, drilled and put in 2 pillars, worked great. Now I have a stock that takes actions of both bolt configurations.

Several have done the above including me. Works great.

The BA action is practically the same thing with only 2 screws. It is a repeater target action if you will. They shoot well.
