Savage Target Action Die

Does anyone know where I can find a tap and die for the Savage Target Action. I found a Savage tap and die set on brownells but I believe it is for the small shank 110 type actions. It's my understanding that the barrel should be turned to 1.117 for the Savage Target Action before threading; can anyone tell me if this is correct. Thanks, Brian.

Brian, I think you would be better served to have the barrel threads turned using a lathe. Using a tap die will not give you the alignment and "trueness" you need.

Dave Kiff at PT&G is making action thread truing jigs in both 1 1/16" and 1 1/8" plus .010" X 20 tpi for Savages. He also makes the standard diameters. He makes bolt race reamers and over sized bolt bodies .701 through .705. It makes a much better action without all that slop. The PT&G bolt bodies are machined from tool steel. The factory boltbodies are drawn tubing over a mandrel then chrome plated. Huge difference.

If you still want a standard tap and die set MSC Industrial Sells them.

These tools are expensive and you may find sending your action to a gunsmith a less expensive option.
