Savage stock options LA Single Shot action

I'm looking for advice on some stock options for a project I'm getting ready to finish up. It is a Savage 112FVS single shot solid bottom action with screw spacing about 5 1/8". Top bolt release and old style reworked trigger. I rebarreled it to the 224 TTH with a 26" full profile 1" at the muzzle. Leupold 6.5x20 VXIII with Stoney Point target knobs.
The factory plastic stock is just too flimsy now and would like to upgrade to something with an aluminum bedding block. I've looked at the Boyd's and Stocky's offerings but am just overwhelmed at what would be best. The intended purpose is informal bench with occasional varminting. If I can get it to shoot I might even look into some F-class competition assuming it qualifies by the rules. Mainly right now it is just gonna be a fun gun.
I really like the colorful laminates and also the speckled synthetics like the HS Precision or the Bell & Carlsons. I think I need a heavy ended stock since the balance point is about 8" past the recoil lug onto the barrel.
Any ideas or suggestions? Maybe a picture of what you like or have would be appreciated.DSC05567.JPG DSC05570.JPG DSC05572.JPG

That is one heck of a good action to build upon. I have one re barreled with a bull 6br barrel and it shoots as well as the target action. Do not be afraid to put a few bucks towards a good stock. Stocks to accommodate the action are a bit limited. I remodeled a bvss laminated stock for mine by inletting a 3 inch by 6 inch forend. Just saying.

I did almost the exact same thing with a 112 target magnum. Went to a bartlien straight contour 1.25 (1.125 after threading) to 1" at 26. The stock that came on the 112 target magnum was able to accomodate the barrel nicely with only a minor amount of sanding. I haven't seen one in a while, but the stocks from 112 target magnum do some up for sale sometimes, but they are for 3 screw action.

Anywho, build looks good. Good luck with the build.

Your quest will be in vain unless you are willing to go "custom made" $$$$.
My advice is to go with a Boyd's or one from Stocky's and then inlet for a Whiden V block if you really want the aluminum bedding block.
I have 14 different Savages all in laminate stocks 2 are custom the rest I got from either of the above mentioned, Stockey's seem a little heavier and I think they are running a sale on the Hart laminates right now.

Choate makes a solid stock at around $200. Aluminum bedding block extends into the forend, which works well if you use a bipod. On mine I filled the mag well with lead to add weight.

all good ideas guys. I like Stocky's laminates but never had a thumbhole style and not sure how I'd like it. Do they do custom inletting for the Widden blocks? I'd considered the Choate stocks but I'm not crazy about all the gadgets on them. A serrated forarm? An angled front forearm? I guess that could be sanded down smooth to ride the bags. Then that knob on the buttstock seems to be a place to induce wobble. At least their new stocks have the full length bedding block. I had an old Choate that was just injection molded plastic and wasn't very fond of it. Then I look at Brownell's and see they list longaction/short action as the same stock number. Really confusing.
I've even spent time on the factory Savage plastic imbedding spring steel rods from the action area to the bipod mount. And adding lead to the rear stock to balance it all out. Then I have a 15 pound rifle to lug around, lol. Cray cray.

i'm appreciating the ideas so keep 'em coming. Stocky's or Choate's might be my best option atm.

Look at the Choate Tactical, no gadgets. The bottom of the butt is parallel to the forend, so straight-back recoil management is enhanced. I mainly shoot prone with a bipod and shoots as well as my high dollar stocks, actually better than most of them. If you use a front rest it is easy to add a wide plate on the bottom of the forend to ride the bag consistently. And you need to order a cheekrest as an extra.

Stockade Long Range Benchrest stock. Looks like the McMillan Tooley MBR but has a ~5/8" wide flat bottom in the rear.

I'm sure Kevin would put the alum. bedding block in one. But, so many skim bed those too (me included), I'd be more inclined to go conventional pillar bedding for the best fit.

Pick up a short Picatinny rail. Have him drop in a couple "T" nuts down through the barrel channel so you can put the Picatinny rail on/take it off as needed. Then you can go from front rest to bipod depending on the shooting activity.

May be a bad word BUT, think about Richard's Micro-Fit. I have and have had a "bunch" of them. Work always needed to get it finished. Not too much of a problem to open up the inlet for a Whidden V Block. (got two or three) Just about any inlet will leave enough meat to fit the V Block. BIG selection on styles and colors and the price is right.;) Thumbhole with a lot of meat in the back end for balance. If you can get one without the front hole drilled?
Perfect for bench shooting but not too good for packing, unless you have a Porter.;)

I have considered the microfit. Also the bedding block isn't a necessity really. It's just almost every factory synthetic stock I've had has been flimsy with a heavy varmint barrel. It seems the aluminum bedding block ones were created to address that. I've always bedded with the acraglass so a bit of stock prep doesn't bother me. I like the reviews on the Choate varmint and tactical but just abhor the look. Maybe it grows on ya, just reminds me of the AK stocks during the ban. Couldn't wait to replace those. So I'm looking at all of these options. At least I have a switch barrel model 110 I could demote it to if it doesn't work for the custom build.
Thanks guys, all advice welcome.

If you don't want to go "V Block", add pillars and be done with it OR, just go with the Laminates. Bed to fit and go shooting. Mine are V Blocked or pillared, just because. I don't mind the work and they're done the way "I like them".
Some of the laminates (years back) had problems separating but nothing in the last 10 years or so that I've heard of.
Heavy, tough as nails, moisture doesn't bother them and some of the colors will knock your eye out.:cool:
Done 10 or 12 and loved every one of them. My preference? Micro-Fit.;) AND, I love straight pipes!! The heavier the better.:D

I do like the color

Darn tablet posted on me before I was through. The coffee with green and such I like but some of the wild combinations are sure cool. The heavy butt style sounds especially what I'm looking for t8 absorb a bit more felt recoil and balance out the straight contour. I'll look at those when back on the puter, this tablet bogs down on a busy website.
