Savage SS action matte finish, can it be worked/buffed to be shiny?

I'm curious to know if anyone has been able to get the matte/dull finish on a Savage SS action shiny?

If so, how did you do it?

It would be cool to have the action be as shiny as the barrel I'm putting on. 8)

A Dremiel tool with small buffing wheels and rouge, takes a while...or a buffing wheel and rouge. They come out very shiny.

I would recomend a tool grinder with a buffing wheel for the larger areas. A dremel for the smaller areas. Using a dremel tool on the larger areas may cause uneven surfaces. It will go much faster if you start with 1500 grit emory paper first and elbo grease.

it will take a lot longer but you will be much happier doing it by hand with wet-o-dry paper useing appropriate backer for area u are doing. use flat sick for general areas and dowels for the rounded areas. i would start with 400 grit and work my way up to 1000 that will look like a mirror. if you do use a buffer stay off the corners and off the lettering

Here's one I did. It started out more a satin gray. I use a bench mounted buffer and dremel tool with Craytex abrassive/rubber polishing bits. Ebay has import craytex comparable sets pretty cheap and they work really good for all the tight areas. Final finish is put on with buffer wheel and rouge on bench grinder with buffer wheel and dremel with same. You can even get by with a cheap 6" "harbor freight" bench grinder(you'll have to remove guard), 6"buffing wheel, red rouge, ebay abrassive kit. Probably get it all close to $50. It just takes a little elbow grease. I've done several Savages and they shine up great.

Terry,
You bought the BVSS stock from this action a while back. I bought the rifle new for the single shot action and sold the rest.
