Savage shank question

To all you knowledgeable Savage nuts, A question how do you tell large shank from small shank barrels ? I read some where to recently to find again ( CRS ) there is two different length nuts ?? is that how you tell? and what would those lengths be ?

Measure diameter of threads. IIRC, small shank is around .1052" and large shank is 1.125"

Is there a small step AFTER the front edge of the barrel nut? If so, large shank.

Not always true...

OP, one way to tell is the small shank barrel nuts are right at 7/8" long. The large shank is just over 5/8" long.

This is the fastest way to recognize small from large.
