Savage S/A chassis recommendation

I’m looking to replace my HS on my Savage 260 LRP with a chassis. Not sure where to start. I’d eventually like to run an extended mag of some sort, too.

Personally I did not like the chassis style stock. For me the KRG Bravo is a nice compromise design. It offers a hybrid butt which is flat on the rear, and tapered forward, to achieve a good combination of stability vs adjustability. The tapered section is removable to render a class is butt-hook design.

Other than the KRG Bravo isn't available for Savage SA.

Only the 180 Alpha is, and it's basically a poor-man's version of the X-ray, with some unsavory compromises in the fore-end.

Don't get me wrong, I like my Bravo... but it's not available, so...

MDT and XLR both make very nice chassis, most of which are available for Savage and other actions. MDT for one is pretty good about accommodating the various iterations of hole-spacing, top vs. bottom bolt release, etc.

XLR is outstanding. However, you should try them before you buy, they all fit the shooter differently.

I've used both the MDT LSS and LSS-XL and really enjoyed them both. As milanuk mentioned above, they fit most Savages, and are built well. They have versions that can handle carbine or fixed stocks, so I would suggest deciding on that before ordering and having to buy an adapter.

LSS is ok. I have a couple. They're inexpensive but kinda heavy and you still have to put a butt and grip on it. MPA's BA chassis is probably one of the best things going but I do like the XLR Carbon quite a lot. I'd look at either the XLR Carbon or MPA chassis unless cost is a major factor. If cost is a big deal XLR Element + any ol' pistol grip and an XLR Tactical butt is hard to beat for cost and killer.

I have a 1st Gen XLR Element Savage short action chassis that I have been extremely pleased with. It's set up with the side folding stock option. I like XLR well enough that I'm in the process of putting together a magnum long action Savage and I'm going to put it in a XLR Evolution chassis with folding stock option.

+1 for McRee - I have a Savage "target action" (single shot), 243 Win, Criterion 28" "bull", mounted in a McRee G5 chassis and really like it a lot!

For Savage? I run an MDT LSS-XLGen2 chassis and an XLR buttstock - love the chassis concept as they are completely modular. Love MDT as with Savage things are "drop in" and easy.

I have 3 MDT LSS chassis rifles. 2 savage SA and a rem sa. I really like them because they are a smaller more compact chassis. To me most of the chassis rifles feel bulky. I have an early model 110BA in 338LP. That chassis feels too big and bulky to me. The MDT are nice when they accept any AR style butt stock. Insane amount of options and many are very reasonably priced. If I couldn't put my hands on a stock or chassis before I bought it. I'd never spend the money most cost. To me 500+ is excessive for a stock. Just don't see where the price comes from with today's manufacturing processes and abilities. JMO
