I got my Model 12 SS Savage ADL style repeater to work fairly reliably with the 221 Fireball a couple years back and now the 22BR by filing down the notch in the ejector like shown in RugerRalpie’s link. Not sure exactly how much I took off any more. Don’t remember if I messed with the spring any either. I also don’t change bolt heads when going from 22BR to 308 come deer season. So it still works for a regular length case. Wish I could remember if this is the same ejector pin I used back on the 221. But I’m building a 20 Fireball for reduced tree squirrel hunting and hope I can repeat the success with a different 223 head’s ejector pin. Of course you have switch to the short 223 magazine and follower if you want any chance of the setup to work. So I know the fix does work for some of us. Ejector pins and springs are cheap. Get a couple and play around with them.
