Savage Norma 6 BR

I have one and shot 4 199’s at my clubs 600 yard F-open style matches. 29.5 gr varget and 105’s @ 2840. Never shot a clean 200, but kept me in the money. Some guys that had big money rigs would just shake their heads. I have since re-barreled with a bartlein 8 twist from LRI. Shoots just as good, maybe even a little better. The trigger still sucks though.

Bix and Andy makes one if your pocket book is feeling a little too heavy. Should be a nice trigger.

I have one that shoots little dots @100 and clean 600 yard mid range f class targets. I use Peterson brass with CCI450 primers, 30 grains of N150 seated .020 off of touch with 105 Berger VLD target bullets. Not hybrids. It don’t like hybrids.

Do you happen to remember the M V of this load please Sir?

2840 I believe. I have some targets I can look at to verify.
Mr @Bill Norris it was 2830 with 30 grains. There is one range I go shoot that it tunes differently and the charge I use there is 30.2 and it shoots 2845-50. I got my charges mixed up. If I don’t clean it back to bare metal after a match it speeds up drastically but it’s not as consistent.

Thanks for the info.

Yea that barrel mentioned above actually looked as if it was threaded almost. After the Tubb F/F deal it looked some better but not enough to brag about.
Curious. Was there 'before' and 'after' accuracy testing?
I hand lapped one barrel several years ago that had multiple constrictions at every dovetail and the brand/caliber stamp. It did improve significantly in the accuracy department, but going from 6" at 100 yards to 3" isn't exactly what I'd hoped for.
It was a Henry .357mag.

Sent it down the road cheap.

Possibly so. Anything’s gotta be smoother than the crosscut saw rifling.
Such has been my experience. Shoot 5 rounds down a clean bore. Put it away for at least 3 days. Shoot it again fouled and zero it. It'll be under 1 MOA. Leave it alone until hunting season is over. Clean it well. Oil it up. Repeat next hunting season.

Been following this formula for over 2 decades.

Oh yea I did all the testing for him when he got the rifle directly from Savage on the L E program. It was terrible before we run the F F thru it and it did improve by a small margin but not enough to write home about.

Thanks for the info. Suspected as much, but never tried the Tubbs system personally.

Edit to add - I did buy an Axis in 7mm-08. It shoots 3/4 MOA with the first load I tried.

It's a keeper. No bedding. Off the shelf.

That was my first experience with it too. Not a pleasurable experience. Have to load and shoot 5 -ten shot strings with allowing for cooling and cleaning after each 10 shots. Ties up a bunch of time.

Yes, it does. Lap one by hand with poured laps. Oy! Never again.

That's 2 weeks of my life I'll never get back.
