Savage Norma 6 BR

I have one that I don't shoot much. A number of years ago I shot several matches that had a factory class. This rifle did well in that context. I found the Berger 108 was the easiest to get to shoot. Barts 105 Gungnir also shot well. I didn't have much luck with the Berger 105's. Not sure exactly why as most folks do well with the hybrids. If I do my part it shoots in the mid 3's. My load is with Varget powder and CCI 450 primers going about 2765.

A friend of mine bought one recently that was terrible and still is in my opinion. Did not group well from the start with Bergers 105 gr. and 30 gr. of Varget. He ordered the Tubb Final Finish Kit and we ran it thru it per the instructions and it did help somewhat but still does not shoot as I think it should for the amount of money he paid.

That is disappointing. I have owned 3, and still own 2. One is a very early gun, the fit and finish are night and day above the current production guns. This was/is my wife’s rifle. The other is newer and is a little rougher around the edges. It still shoots well. I dug up a couple of old targets. I can't get the same velocity out of my new lot of varget. For whatever reason if I go above 29.6 with the new lot it blanks primers. The loads on these targets may not be safe in all rifles, work up slowly.

Same witjh mine. Above 29.7 & they bulge

I have been able to work up over 30g with the lot of varget in an old dual port and factory barrel. No primer issues with rem 7 1/2’s. Shooting old stock moly berger 105 BT bullets at 2850 fps. .005 from jam.

Savage factory barrels are normally pretty good. sometimes really good and sometimes not as good.

Even the good ones seem to be copper mines. The rough barrel finish is hard to clean but can give decent results, ie, 0.5MOA. I've had a really good one (Axis .223) and a so-so (12BVSS .308).

Mine had a burr in the chamber that was on the shoulder line. It marked brass. I sanded it out after three tries. It shot respectable with 107 SMK It was rough as a hollow log down the bore but always delivered well enough
I put a Shilen pre fit on it and it is a beauty now. Makes it look easy

I bought a 6BR too in an F-Class style stock. I sent it back to Savage twice and they 'fixed" it. I never could get it to shoot. I rebarreled it into a 20-223AI and it's a tack driver now. The Savage barrels were not good for me.

One of the worst things in the world that one can do to one’s psyche is to stick a bore scope down a Savage factory barrel.

Truth. Their barrels look smooth as a rat tail file but somehow manage satisfactory accuracy. I’ve seen some that really stacked bullets. Total copper mines but usually they do pretty good.
Yea that barrel mentioned above actually looked as if it was threaded almost. After the Tubb F/F deal it looked some better but not enough to brag about.

My Model 12 LRPV barrel looks like a corrugated drain pipe…….all the while stacking .223 rounds into a 4” gong at 500 yards if I don’t screw up the shot and get the scope doped right. And I’ve gotten to where I de- copper that barrel after each range trip.
