Savage model 99c

does anyone have a diagram or something on how to strip down this rifle ? It was my grandfathers then my fathers and now mine. It has lots of carbon in the barrel. I remember my father cleaning it with a length of rawhide with a slit in it to hold a patch. I doubt it even had a brush down the barrel.
It is in excellent condition except for the carbon. It is 300 savage caliber. It also has the original tang peep sight.

Don't worry about the carbon. Just run a few damp patches of a mild solvent like Hoppes # 9 gently down the muzzle with a rag on the chamber end to capture the gunk, and follow up with a lightly oiled patch of gun oil and call it done. Never attemped it, but from what I have learned it is not a simple takedown and you will probably regret it. Not to mention buggering up those slotted screw heads.
If it ain't broke-don't try to fix it ----especially a family heirloom.
IME, it will provide uncanny accuracy just the way it is....A prestine cleaning job won't do anything to improve it.

Is it a model 99C (clip fed version produced starting in 1965) OR a mod.1899C octagon barrel. straight grip, crescent steel but plate 1899- 1915 ? Either one was not made in 300 Sav. to my knowledge. Perhaps .303 Savage? Your "original tang sight" leads me to think it's the latter -which triples the value regardless of condition.

I'd do a bit of research on the exact model and the year of production (via S/N) before attempting disassembly- it might be worth more than you think. IIRC the rotary mag was a bear to get back together (timing issues?).
