Savage Model 99

I have 3 left and one is minty and my favorite had one deep scratch on the right side of the receiver which someone tried to fix. It looks passable and the rest is like new. I will sell them last if I am in a bind.

Back in the '70s an old basement gun shop had probably a dozen '99s in mostly .300 and .303 with a couple of .22 High powers thrown in for good measure. Not a good seller here in Northern Illinois so were quite cheap. I sure wish I had bought a few. Only one I really wanted at the time was .250 Savage...and of course none ever came in.

I just dated my 30-30 yesterday 1936 I have had others wish I had kept them, at the local gun shop yesterday I saw the last two he had left on the wall everything is selling out here, one with a much earlier serial than mine and one newer the cheap one was asking 700.00 the earlier 1200.00 I paid 350.00 2 years ago. then he had 15 on the wall

A number of years ago a fellow and I bought a lot of ten 99's we each kept a 25-35 one an 1899 B and the other a 1899 A, we sold the rest and still turned a profit and ended up with two rare 99's. After I had eye surgery and could no long shoot open or receiver sights I sold all but the ones that were D&T'd, gave my 308 to my nephew and I still have my 99 in 375 Win. I always thought I'd like to build a 99 in 22-250(they did chamber some 99C's in it) for a coyote hunting rig but I'm running out of time and have too many already(coyote hunting guns)

Two guys working on the job with me got to horse trading over a 99 my friend Danny eventually bought it. After a few days he tells me he took it apart and cleaned it, getting it ready to shoot. He said it had 6 or 7 crayons in the magazine all melted together where the seller and his equally crazy brother played with it as kids.

The 250-3000 was my first rifle that was worthy of hunting with. Many a white tail/black tail deer went home in the trunk of my 63 Chevy. To me it and the 300 Savge will always be the best two hunting rifles i have owned.

Good read...

My first hunting rifle was a 99 in .308 handed down to me from my dad. My dad’s brothers also had 99’s, one in .308 (Round counter) and the other .250-3000 (round counter) Grandmas gun was a 99 in 300 savage. All but one of those guns resides in my safe, hopefully the fourth one someday....

I have my dad's 99EG in .300 Savage. I love the rifle.... to me it's like having him with me ever time I go out into the woods. Never seems to fail to make meat either - just place the crosshairs, inhale, exhale, feel your finger touch the trigger, go collect your deer. I am looking for an aftermarket stock to shorten for my daughter when I can no longer use it.

I can remember seeing dozens of the lever guns on various gun shop used racks in the 70's and 80's. Always wanted to pick up one in 250-3000, but they were always priced at a premium to the other rifles and several hundred more than a teenager could afford.

My father got a machine gun patent in 1973 and the feds dropped off a lifetime supply of 7.62x51 ammo. I was 22, but my 14 year old brother talked my father into buying a used 1969 Sav99 in 308. I drove my little brother to the range. He shocked the old men there with sub moa groups with open sights. He later burned up the barrel shooting flares. I have it now with a new barrel.
