Savage Model 12 Target Action

Here’s my Savage Target Action. Straight 284 with a Bartlein finished at 32”. I sent it to Larry Racine
I had Larry do a PTA for me several years ago. It's VERY smooth, but it's a RBRPRE so I don't use it much anymore.
For the rat patch, I really like left load, left eject. I cut down the ejector spring until the case just falls out onto the table about 6 inches away. I've even had a few land right back in the box! I'm right handed and shoot off of a rotating table (DOA) so there is a lot more room on the left side of the table for ammo, binocs, etc.

After much thought and having a slice of humble pie, I'm now considering the above action in the dual port configuration. I have owned several of the Model 12 LRVP's and I have to say, they were shooters right out of the box. I just never had any luck with the factory Accu-Triggers or the aftermarkets, however. I have heard the Jard's are good and now with Bix'n Andy putting out a new trigger, I have a 50/50 shot with one of those if I decide to go this route. There are plenty of top shelf barrel manufactures out there offering pre-fits. So, the biggest plus to considering the Savage action is that it would keep me way under budget and I would have complete peace of mind in the accuracy department. Looking around trying to find them is the challenge. Seems that everyone is sold out including Northland Shooters Supply's. Time is on my side though.

For those who are using this action, I would like your input and pic's.
I think that the Native American rifles are fine as long as you get rid of that trigger with the flippy thing in it. They have come back from the brink and have a pretty good reputation for accuracy.

I have had a couple of each configuration. All are nice but for me I would rank them in this order:
(1) left port
(2) dual port
(3) right port

Being able to load and eject from the left side is a nice advantage with being able to work the brass with one hand and the bolt and trigger with the other.
The dual port is the next best option. And I haven’t tried yet but I am going to, but I think if you swap the bolt head to a LH it will then be able to load from either side and eject from the left side.l This is my next project to test out in think.
The right port is nice but IMO if you’re swapping the trigger anyway then it’s not much different than a standard RH action with a single shot follower.

And my dual port is a 4.4 bolt spacing instead of a 3.4 so they do make them. It is a 2009 model. Sure makes it easier on stock options. They do look cool too though!

Mike, better hurry… this thing even waiting for that Jard trigger! Maybe he’d part it out?

I know, I saw that. The jury's is still out. To soon.
