Savage MKIIFV 17HM2 stock compatibility

8MM Mauser

It shoots through schools!
I just ordered a new Savage MKIIFV in 17HM2. It comes with the plastic stock. I'm not thrilled by this. Looking for a source for a nice replacement wood stock.

Pointers? Thanks.

8mm Mauser,
You might want to take a look at www.rifle-stocks.com (Richard's Microfit Stocks). They make stocks that are either solid Walnut or Laminated and are very nice, especially for the money. The stocks are obviously heavier because of the wood and are usually 96 - 99% inletted, but unfinished. When finished, they are simply beautiful. They made me a Thumbhole for my TR MKII that I tried out, but ended up just recently selling the stock because the thumbhole feeling didn't work for me (busted my right hand years ago in a motorcycle accident and arthrytis caught up with it) so I had to take the stock off. They are presently making me a Benchrest style stock for my .308 that is getting rebarreled as well. It takes them 4 - 6 weeks to make the stock, but for the money, they're hard to beat. Send me an email address if you's like to see the stock they made for my TR. I'll send you over a few pictures.

Alex

P.S. As a side note, as a young teenager, I used to run around on the OU campus when things got boring down in Dallas where I grew up some.

Thank you for the pointers folks. I did not realize the 93 and the MKII took the same furniture.

Shynloco, I have a Richard's stock on order. It's to fit my Japanese Type 38. We'll see how this looks.

Funny, I just moved from Norman to Dallas. I used to live less than a mile from OU and could hear the games from my front porch!

Ideally I want a laminated stock with color. Not a fan of thumbhole stocks at all.

I'll be sending you a PM Shy... I'd like to see pics. Might give me an idea of what I'd like.

Thanks again folks.

Speaking of the Boyd's stocks. I was looking at some of the colored laminate stocks. What is the finish like on them? How much (if any) work to make them nice and shiny?

8mm mauser--the finish will be nice but a little dull, not shiney, I have had both of mine sprayed at work( our paint booth ) auto clear looks killer, unbelieveable difference and very hard finish..makes the colors jump out... Neil

Try sharp shooter supply they specialize in savage stocks had one and they are nice I think its www.sharpshooter.com
