Thanks for all your help.

Can I ask what neck you used for the 6BR, did you use the .272. I have been having problems in my correspondence with Shilen determining if the .272 is going to give me freebore for the big bullets.

Do I need a gunsmith to put all of this together? I am pretty handy and I have good tools but I don't want to flounder in the deep end of the pool.

I would like to use the H-S as it is my guess I should be able to get the barrel/action in and out easier if I want to put another barrel on. It is good to read a regular H-S, Remington action stock will work the the barrel nut system and a full bull barrel.

Shilen chambers will give you a full range of bullets, no problem, they do a good job, yes mine has a .272 no turn neck, Yes HS is a good stock even though it has a beddng block I still bed mine, probably not necessary but just my habit, you will be happy with Shilen products and their install.

And mine is a older model and I cannot get it to eject for the life of me.

Replace the extractor...

My savage 6br's all have a .2704 neck to work with the new blue box lapua brass. It is a no turn for the blue box, they have a thinner neck wall than the older lapua brass. I would think on it before I went with a .272 on a new build.
My loaded rounds measure .2675

The neck diameter has nothing to do with the ability to shoot heavier bullets it is not the freebore.
The freebore is the length from the end of the brass to the start of the rifling
Most who plan to shoot 100-105 gr bullets use around a .104 freebore

Thanks Tim! I needed that .104 number. In all the East Coast heat I forgot that someone else here helped me with that question as well. But the .104 is what I need to talk with Shilen.

fm1947 - I am having a little trouble figuring out the H-S stock. My build will be a single shot. I am not showing anything from H-S for the ADL single shot bull barrel. Are you using the PSV079 BDL stock and just leaving the inlet open?

I don't know, I would think the single shot Shilen action will have a solid bottom. But I was thinking a floor plate to cover the magazine hole and add rigidity to the stock. I would really like to see a ADL (solid bottom stock) for a single shot for the added rigidity. This is why I was asking fm1947 what stock he uses.

Sorry, wasn't following you. Gotcha I would think HS precision would make a solid single shot stock

Midwayusa and Stockys show a HS precision model 700 adl. They are however like most things out of stock.

YES 079 I HAVE FLOOR PLATE but you can still use it for single shot no big deal

I use the 079 with my 700 that has floor plat my shilen I use McMillan edge bench stock I put an insert in the opening for floor plate on shilen, jusy cant remember what they call it , got it from midway

My Savage 12 LRPV in .223 is kind of....automatic. About all I do is get it seated in the bags, pointed in the right direction, and squeeze the trigger. Sub-MOA groups at 100 yards are essentially the norm, it especially likes 68 or 69 grain out of its 1:7 barrel, although it will certainly shoots loads in the 70s. It`s been almost boringly accurate out to 300 yards on steel ( working towards 500 yards ). Wouldn`t hesitate to recommend one.

I think that most don't want to replace one with a factory barrel... and given the choice of after market tubes...
