Savage lrp 6.5 cm

What do you guys think of the savage lrp in 6.5 creedmoor? I cant really afford a full build right now but Id like to try out a 6.5. We all know the savage barrel quality is not the best but they do shoot well occasionally. But then I think maybe I should wait for a used one to pop up and order a 6.5x47 lapua barrel. I guess my question is for anyone who has one box stock hows it shoot? Would you buy another one?

I frequent a site mostly dedicated to the 6.5 Cm cartridge and the reports are very positive on the performance of this rifle.

I have temporary use of one right now. With bullets it likes, it shoots very well indeed - like a 7.2-inch 5-shot 1,000 round group in a UK Benchrest Assoc. match.

It does have one problem which is mentioned on the 6.5HCM forum as being not uncommon. The leade is too small a diameter for some bullets. (I also have this problem in a custom Creedmoor chambered with an as new PT&G industry standard chamber reamer.) The leade is nominally 0.2645" diameter, only a half-thou' greater than the nominal bullet diameter, so any downwards tolerance here sees the bullet having to be pushed through it touching en route. (It shows up quite clearly with some bullets on using the Hornady / Stoney-Point OAL gauge - you have to push the bullet through feeling resistance. It generates a LOT of copper fouling down the barrel with those bullets that touch!)

(I've spoken to a gunsmith friend who says he's seen this on other cartridges with some reamers, especially with uneven groove numbers such as 5R types.) I've been advised that a simple cure is a short cleaning rod with a bore brush wrapped in fine steel wool and simply rotate it in the relevant place until it's polished slightly larger. I've yet to do this, but expect that this will provide a complete cure.

That apart, the rifle has fully lived up to expectations.

Thank you for the replies. Going tommorrow to pick one up at sportsmans warehouse. 1069.00$ seemed like a decent price to me.
