UPDATE TO POST (See original 5 Dec post for background)
18 Feb: I finally received the rifle back from Savage (can't say I'm satisfied with their "snail speed", but the gun was there during Christmas/New Years...and they said their machine shop was undergoing maintenance...yadayada...)
They appear to have resolved the issue, but didn't specifically state what the issue was originally. Here's line by line what the Service Invoice says (omitting their code-talk numbers):
FIREARM INSPECTION
REAM TIGHT CHAMBER- (BOLT ACTION)
POLISH CHAMBER
CLEAN BORE
HEADSPACE - GOOD
CHECK COMPLETE
FUNCTION FIRE_PASSED
I haven't reattached my scope yet, so I haven't actually fired it yet. However, I did insert a new round into the chamber (dropped in) as well as loaded one via the magazine. Both rounds fed (fully seated) into the chamber, and both ejected as they are supposed to.
Again, their service "speed" left lots to be desired...
