Savage Front Action Screw

My nephew had a savage 111 .270 sitting in the closet the past few years. He put it away wet and dirty. I've dealt with the rust, but it's also missing the front action screw.

Are all savages the same? Any tips on how to determine what screw I need would be appreciated.

There or Midway should list the Savage 111.
May depend on top or bottom bolt release, but don't quote me.

1/4" x 28 TPI. Any good hardware store should have them. Pick your style.
Get it longer than needed, double nut it, cut it off, file/grind it smooth and make sure it doesn't bind/hit the the bolt body. Nothing to it!! I happen to like stainless socket head screws but that's just me.

I picked up a good stainless one from the hardware store. Worked great.

I don’t know. This is the only savage I’ve ever worked on. Rifle is back with owner already.

Shot a couple groups off my elbows at 100 and each was inside an inch (shoulda stopped at 3 both times). Kinda mad tbh I feel strongly that you should be punished for letting your gun rust!
