Savage firing pin spring pressure

I was having same issue with the 450's. I think i have it resolved. I was making brass converted to 6x45. most would fire but having alot of failures. I ended up not FL sizing the brass, just sized enough of the necks for bullet tension. Bold is snug to close due to not pushing shoulder back. So far that has fixed issue. Im still forming brass. I would measure your sized brass piece by piece and see what they are reading. Thats how i found my issue.

I checked and the cases are only sized back .002"-.003". at the shoulder.

I have seen more times than not that a FTF is caused by the primer not seated to the bottom of the primer pocket
Or, the shoulders set back too far (headspace), when the primer is hit, the case gets pushed forward and you get FTF.
Never had a FTF EXCEPT when the case headspace was too much. Out of my 5+ factory Savage rigs, no firing pin issues, EVER!!

As part of my brass prep process I uniform primer pockets and use a hand held primer seater. I never had a single problem until I switched from WSR primers to CCI #450s due to availability/unavailability of primers lately.
My understanding is that the 450s use a harder cup material and perhaps that is the crux of the problem. I've just been trying to eliminate any other possibility before concluding that it's being caused by the primers.
I heard more than once that the simplest explanation is usually the correct one. However I also believe in being thorough when looking for the cause of a problem.

Before you buy a spring, check what you got. Take the bolt handle off the bolt and pull out the spring. Savage made some changes to the spring.

My latest Savage 110 has a 3 piece spring assembly. It was NOT a 1 piece spring.

Your model 12 may have a 1 piece.

I was getting light strikes and when I went to inspect the spring it came out in 3 pieces. I thought I broke the spring but was wrong.

If you have a 3 piece spring let me know. I found on a Savage forum a spacer info that will replace the center washer between the 2 main springs. i have my friend machine me one out off the blue prints that I got off the forum.

If you decock the firing pin you will see what I am talking about.
That 3 piece spring setup was fraught with issues early on. In my cases, the replacement is a heavier spring from Savage, although they said they weren't aware of any issues. Lol!
