Savage Fireball Bolt Head

Everyone is aware of the ejection issues when converting a 223 or 204 action to either a 221 Fireball or 20 VarTarg. Remington solved this problem by indexing the extractor and ejector so the empty case didn't ride the bolt raceway on the way out. Does anyone know of a supplier that sells a "Fireball" bolt head for a Savage?

Only way (that I know of) to solve that problem in to pull the ejector rod and spring. Making it a single shot. Case stays on the bolt head till you pick it off.
I tried everything to get the short cases to extract and eject. Finally pulled the rod and solved the problem. Matter of fact, all my rigs are single shot by doing just that.

I have a couple Savage actions w/221 Fireballs. 1 is a Douglas barrel & 1 is a ER Shaw. I just removed the ejector on the Douglas bbl action and tried the fix on the ER Shaw bbl...I like the ejector removed better. I think I found this pic a couple years ago on the SSS website but can't seem to find the article now. Savage Shooters may have a write up on it.

Good stuff..I'll try the file method first...seems simple..if I don't have any luck then I'll check out E.A. Brown..
Thank you

You may be able to get a "fireball" bolt head from E.A. Brown but my guess is it won't be any better than what we're working with now.
Anybody get one and if so, how does it work???
