savage f-class

Im a new f-class shooting, currently shooting a remington 308 which is doing well. However the rifle has a ton of rounds through it and will need a new barrel soon so I am in need of a spare gun. The savage model12 f-class gun looks great for the price. Does anyone have any experience with them especially in the 6.5-284?.....anyways thanks for any advice

I have had mine for a few months and the more I work with it the better I like it. I have been working my way out with it and I have so far made my way to 8ooyds. It will put 5 shots in 4" at that distance on a regular basis. This is in the TX panhandle and we don't often see a still day.I put an 8 1/2 by 25 LEUPOLD on it with Tally rings and bases. At this time I have only gone up to 47.5grs of H4831 pushing a 139gr Lapua bullet, Federal 210 gold metal match primer, and Lapua brass. This is a rather mild load and I Will no surely have to bump it up as I Take to a 1000 and beyond. Hope this helps.

That does help thanks.....I am in Midland tx so we dont ever see a still day either, and im sure the 6.5 is hard to beat in the wind......thanks

I purchased the F-Class back in the early fall. They actually had a recall on them because the chamber was marked wrong. Any ole way - it is a great shooting gun. recoil is of a true F-class. I am shooting 1/8 inch groups @ 100 with mine using Laupa brass, H4350 @ 52.5, fed 210M primers and 140 A-max bullets. I actually like the accu trigger. I put a Burris black diamond 8x32 on it and the system works very well, the only change i will make to it is putting a break on it. Even on a mildly windy day, it will shoot consistently at 1000yds. I like it so much - I ordered the 12f/tr stock and the action to which i will be making a 6mm dasher

wow that's pretty impressive for a factory made rifle.have you done any modifications,or just out of the box? i wonder if any other manufacturers will get in the game.dgd6mm this is a factory built gun, i don't think you are comparing apples to apples. a 6cm sounds like a nice round, but again for a factory gun, order it and pick it up.way to go savage. cliffe

Hey cliffe, your right - about comparison - there is no tweaking done from the factory, no 500 dollar stock, no jewell trigger, nuttin just good ole savage. I know of shots out to 400yds where a savage, barrel change only) had won matches over custom built guns. Its like anything else, you just have to spend time to work the right load. And to answer the question, the only thing I done to the 6.5 was adjust the trigger and break in the barrel --- enjoy

I'm sorry just browsing and seen a question to me about my 6cm. It's a savage action, single shot, factory accutrigger set at 1.75 lbs.,kreiger barrel, medalist stock and a few other odds and ends. Total cost about the same has there factory f/tr.
