savage f class 6mmbr

i am trying to mount the base and the screws feels odd. the screws feel like they are trying to cross thread. i am using a leupold base 55726. any help would be appreciated had the rifle about a month and been waiting on bases to show up.

Not familiar w/ that base... didn't it come w/ a Farrell base?

Have you tried just running the screws in, without the base in the way? Is it just one hole, or all of them? Is there any visible crud in the threads on either the screws or in the holes? Just throwing things out here off the top of my head that I'd be looking at.

Hmmm...

All of my guns came with Farrell bases. Whether thats something special for the team, I don't know. I spoke w/ a person I know who is a dealer and has sold a number of the 12 F/TR & F-Class rifles... he said that it seems to be kind of hit or miss whether they come with a scope base or not. Not real sure why that would be?

I found that scope base you mentioned; it is one listed specifically for the Savage short action round-top,Accutrigger) receivers, so it *should* fit. Obviously, it doesn't.

I'd say you have a couple options: call Savage, and see if they'll send you a base to go with your gun. Then you have to get new rings, because anything they'd send you,or that I'd recommend) probably isn't going to use a dual-dovetail setup. I'd recommend a Warne, EGW, or Farrell base, with Burris Signature Zee rings, personally. If you have your heart set on using that particular scope base, as you have it in hand and presumably rings picked out to go with it... I'd suggest calling Leupold and talking to them. It sounds like maybe the screw threads don't match the receiver hole threads, as you thought. Maybe a 36 pitch vs. a 40 pitch or something like that. I'm not sure how they'd deal with that, or if they'd even admit it's possible. Alternately, if you have a well-stocked gun store or gunsmith nearby, see if they have a selection of scope mount screws that you can sort through and find something that works.

Good luck,

Monte

Have you tried cleaning the screw holes out with a Q-tip yet? Sometimes they get grit when the actions are polished.

Also, try screwing a screw in without the base attached after cleannig the holes. If after cleaning they do not go in smoothly without the base, they are the wrong pitch as Monte stated above.

i have not tried cleaning the threads yet. but with no base in the way the screws feel like they are trying to cross thread. i have burris sig rings waiting to go on this rifle. i will try later tonight with different threaded screws to find the right ones. i will also call savage and ask about the base. the base i have is a leupold base for savage short action. laying the base on the action the holes line up. i went to savage online last night and that is one of the number they list that match the action.

Talk to Fred @ Sharpshooters. I believe he lent some technical support on the development of the F-Class set-up. He is the best Savage Smitty on the planet.

Run a tap through them.

All of my new rifles have needed at least one of the base holes threads chased. I just make it a point to do it now.
