Savage BR12

I have a Savage BR12 in 6.5x,284. I want to switch barrels. Is a barrel vise necessary? I have the proper barrel wrench for the jam nut. Can the action be chucked in a padded vise and the jam nut loosened? Does Savage use any form of Loctite on the barrel threads or jam nut? If I set the headspace on each barrel (buying an additional jam nut) locked that jam nut in place (maybe JB WELD)? would the barrel switching be then a quick matter of just screwing the barrels down and tighten the jam nut? If any of this makes any sense my concern is how tight savage decided to tighten the barrel and are there risks in marring the action/barrel in breaking these loose initially?
Any help on any part of this would really help.

I built my own action vise out of 2X2 oak wood. drilled a hole slighly smaller than the action,,,then ran it through a saw and split it. bolt the two pieces together with action in place. Heat the nut a good bit, then give the wrench a few good raps with a hammer. A cheater bar on the wrench with downward pressure sure helps. As to the nut permanently glued to the barrel......dunno,,,,,but I bet someone has done it. Us basement engineers will try anything.

I use a Wheeler action vise for the remington/savage. Clamp it around the action and mount the action vise in a bench vise. Leave the handle out of the action vise. I just used the nut wrench with a breakover handle and the nut came loose easily.
When you go back with the new barrel, Set the headspace and tighten the barrel nut to about 40 ft pounds with a torque wrench. recheck the headspace after tightening the nut. That is what I did with 2 remingtons and one savage
