Savage botl re-work

I saw a Savage F-Class at a match...the bolt had the rear drilled out and a custon allen headed threaded peice was inserted into it_______the bolt lift was AWESOME! and far less pressure was required...

Any one have any ideas on what or how this was done.

Thanks

I don't know if it was one of his or one similar, but it sounds like a modification Nate Lambeth,Rustystud) was working on and/or doing.

Folks:

That may have been one of mine or a copy of the rear screws that was drilled and tapped .250 X 28tpi and had a cone point .250 X .750 set screw inserted. The main screw is shorten by 3/16" and a shouldered insert made to fit in the cocking piece sleeve. The insert is center drilled causing a small dimple to keep the set screw centered. Thi reduces bolt lift friction amd makes the firing pin spring tension adjustable externally. I tried to get Savage to incorporate this in their target actions. Joe Degrande said Savage was not interested due to product liability issues.

I have discussed this process on 6mmBR webs site as well as on BRC and LRH.

I apologize but I have read your post several times and am still having trouble following. I have the "Ball bearing" from Stockade in a couple of my rifles, and i know how they work. Are you essentially doing the same thing, but with a point instead of a ball, to minimize the friction? I can't seem to visualize it.. perhaps a picture if you don't mind?
