I'm building a 6.5 Grendel bolt rifle and ordered in a PTG bolt head for the Grendel. My question is for setting the firing pin protrusion do I need to adjust the pin or have the bolt head machined to Savage specs? There is about .125 length difference and if I adjust the pin the spring is going to be really compressed. Whats the best way to do this? I have always dealt with factory Savage bolt heads in the past so this in my first dealing with a PTG bolt head.

Something is really amiss here. You mean there is an eighth of an inch difference? Something's not right somewhere. You might recheck you assembly, I can't imagine PTG making a Savage bolt head that is that far out of Savage specs. But then again, stranger things have happened.
Something is not correct, for sure. Measure your savage bolt head and compare it to the length of the PTG one. They should be the same. If PTG is that much different, I would contact and talk too them. Bolt heads should all be the same and drop right in or onto the bolt body, with no further adjustments.
The difference is the back end, not the bolt face area. The assembled bolt drops right in with no issue but the tail end is longer and that is where the firing pin "stops" if I adjust the firing pin itself the spring is going to be really compressed. Picture included... PTG on the left.

(I just checked Midway and it is clearly listed as "short action" but looks exactly like what I have in my hand, Midway number 218143 The lugs are larger but that is easily adjusted with headspace adjustment)

Got it,... it is the wrong bolt head. The one they sold me is a long action bolt head with 1/2 inch lugs. Not real sure why PTG would make a PPC/Grendel bolt head for a long action? Anyway it's going to be send back for exchange/refund.
Problem SolvedHow much was that ? And midway had it in stock ?
