Savage bolt lift kit

DLT

My model 12 is a little snug on the bolt lift. I begin to have misfires so I installed a Wolff firing pin spring and it fixed my issues except now it seems a little harder to lift the bolt. Best I can tell everything else is fine as far as my disassembly and reassembly of the bolt. Nothing seemed rough or out of place with the firing pin assembly. Now the question is should I purchase one of grimstods bolt lift kit from eBay for $22 shipped ? Is it the better of the kits that’s being offered for the savages ? Experiences ? Results ? Thanks

I have 2 of those kits. I did not notice any difference. A buddy of mine did, but he changed out the bolt handles at same time. Ones i tried it on were axis modles. I have a 110 and a 12 but never put kits on them.

You have to cock the bolt so if you put a stouter spring in there its going to take more force to open. Heres the preferred original lift kit.

I have one of the kits (don't remember from where) but it didn't change much. My savage is pretty smooth to begin with. Like dusty said you're compressing more heavier spring now, so it's going to be harder.

A slightly longer "Tactical" bolt handle can make it a better experience.

I have one of grimstods lift kits on a lightweight hunter . It along with a good light lube and hundreds of cycles and now the roughest of my 8 savages is now the smoothest. I think it was totally worth the cost

Send your bolt to Grimstod. Have him bush the firing pin hole, set the FP depth and install his bolt lift kit. You'll be glad you did. He does great work! He's a member here.
+1 for sending your bolt to Grimstod. He did mine awhile ago and at first it didn't seem to make a lot of difference, but after some use it is nice. He is a great guy to deal with also!

Just got a "few" kits in the mail. Installed 3 so far and am not impressed. Maybe 10 minutes each to swap.
Maybe a little easier but it's still a SAVAGE!! 6.8 BR, 22 BR and my 20 MGM Wildcat. One stainless action has a BLACK spacer washer for now. I AM NOT a racist!! ;)
Pulled down one bolt and found that it already had the 38 Special case head/ball bearing mod. Must have been the one I sent out (way back when) for the T&T thang. Swapped it for a kit but no real difference!! BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD??? Like I said, still a Savage.

I have had Grimstod do a couple of bolts for me, 1 target action and 1 Cabela's special FV. The target action is smooth as butta, the 12FV not as much. I think a lot has to do with how good the action is to begin with. You can only improve them so much

Why don't you buy an action that suits you? Or rifle?
Got one!! It's a Remington XP 100. Smooooth as silk.:cool:

Got 5 Savage rifle/actions now. Isn't that enough?
And with ALL the $$$ you throw at them, in the end, it's STILL a Savage. Just not as smooth as the XP action and never will be. :(

I'm not familiar with every kit, generally if something is inserted then something must be removed or the firing pin fall is longer. This can be achieved by removing a corresponding amount from the face of the BAS screw which holds the bolt assembly together.
