Savage benchrest stock help

I have decided to build a savage benchrest rifle. It will either be a 4.27 or 4.4 action.

There are a ton of barrel options out there so I'm not concerned about that decision right now, but I have no idea where and what stock to get.

I would prefer to have one similar to my factory model 12 benchrest.

I had the idea to get one from Richards microfit or a similar type of shop and find a professional to finish it for me. If you had any idea of cost for that please let me know, as well as any other shops to get one from. For budget I would prefer to stay under $500, if it is anymore than that i I will just end up buying a custom gun from the classifieds.

Your not going to make weight easy . I thinkyou have no idea on weigh and the requirements of the stocks
I would look for a glue in carbon fiber BR stock .

I'm shooting a match Saturday I'll check with the guys there and see what they recommend.

Kevin will also make you a stock to your specified weight, good guy to deal with in my experience.

Not sure how much this will impact the weight but i plan on it being a 14 twist 6br around 20/22in so that may save a small amount of weight.

That about a standard BR barrel but your starting with over a half pound disadvantage . Larry

What caliber are you building? Might be better just buying a used 1w benchrest used off the for sale section then upgrading it. I just bought a lightly used 6br Savage 12 benchrest that was professionally bedded with a $100 scope rail for $950. By time you buy a Savage target action and a stock you could just get a lightly used while rifle.

I like savage as good as anyone here but in you case it wouldn't be my choice .
BR game any more is won more often with shooting fast rather the accuracy . With a
savage that is not Something it is noted for . Larry

Buy a good used bench rest gun . Are you right or left handed . A friend has a top of the line gun for sale I know one is left handed I don't know if he still has a right. They aren't a BR but a ppc . Larry
