savage barrel swap

has anyone changed out the barrel on the rimfire action used on the strikers? are they pinned or threaded? if they are pinned has anyone changed it to a threaded style?
I was planning on a ruger charger but they are not legal in NY so next option is the striker.
just looking for options thanks

I have removed a barrel from a .22 striker. I tried heat, cold, hammer..... you name it. I figured since I was replacing the barrel anyways what the heck; I chopped the barrel just in front of the rcvr and counter bored the remaining barrel that was still in the rcvr. didn't appear that there was any glue/loctite or anything just pressure.

didnt even think of leaving the stub in place and coring it out. good call. are there pins in the bottom of the receiver or no

I've heard some stories of threaded barrels on some of the newer Savages, but I believe they all used to be a press fit, with a pin. Mine certainly has the pin. They are known to be very difficult to get out, and I believe they are done with a hydraulic press after you drill or drive the pin out. If you don't get the information you need here do a search on the threads at the Savage section of Rimfire Central. It is often discussed, and some do change their barrel.

can't remember if there was a pin or not really. must not have been difficult to remove the pin if there was one....I'd have remembered it then if so.
