Savage rebuild on .223. Opinions?
It all depends.Savage rebuild on .223. Opinions?
You really cannot use a savage barrel WITHOUT the barrel nut. I suppose it could be done by a gunsmith after modifications are done to the barrel. If you have another barrel cut and contoured to fit the savage action and design it to work without the nut, yes, have a gunsmith set up headspace. If you do not use the barrel nut AND change bolt heads , you MAY have headspace issues .
Just ugly !!!Let me ask this. -- Has anyone who has one, ever experienced a "downside" from the nut system?? jd
Ask yourself have you ever seen a ugly winner ? lolJust ugly !!!
Can't say that I have but those barrels nuts are not aesthetically pleasing. All of my savage actions with new barrels do not have the barrel nut. It's not an accuracy issue just personal preference as I do not like the barrel nut look. A buddy of mine has a 10T with the smooth not. Just looks like a step up from the barrel and smooth like the barrel. That I do like. I do have a couple switch barrels that do still have the nut only because it's only a swap and headspacing job away from a different caliber. That's the biggest benefit too me.Ask yourself have you ever seen a ugly winner ? lol
