Savage-Anshutz Match 64 ammo testing

finally went out and tested ammo at 50 yards for My Old Savage-Anshutz match 64 rifle along with a New rear Bag. Rifle has a weaver T36 scope on it. Other than a couple spring changes, The Rifle is all original!

Weather was normal. Also, I had no wind flags out today. Temp was at 82 at 6:30am when I got to range and was 102 when I finished at 9:30am. (typical Arizona summer weather). wind varied about 2-7 MPH. Luckily I got off the range in time as the winds got over 22 MPH an hour after I left!

I will say, This rifle shoots well for being over 55 Years Old! Now to figure out which ammo to do further testing...

I will post a pic of the rifle later after the dust stops blowing around.

That is a great rifle and scope combo. Im surprised the club shot that well, I doubt it will really be super consistent though. I would definately give Center X another go as it was very consistent but you had something going on with the split groups. I have found that most Of my Target rimfires that shoot Center X real well will also shoot SK Standard plus very well as practice ammo but much cheaper. Eley Precision I have never shot so not sure on consistency but you could basically work with the right target and I dont think you would be wrong.

The split groups were wind gusts as the wind started gusting when I shot the center-x! Along with that, the Center-x I was shooting is over 10 years old, so might be a little inconsistent. it was just some left over ammo. I am hoping it likes the center-x as my other rifles love it(when I can finally get Lapua ammo). But, they are in storage as I cannot get ammo for them.

The eley club did surprise me also. But it was a box that a friend gave me and just tried it.

as for the target, that is my Clubs Old official target for 50 yards! WE have since switched to the IBS target. But we shoot Shuetzen style (combo of bench and offhand). we shoot 2 shots per bull, 25 bulls for a total of 50 shots for bench.

Also have a model 64. Bought about 1975. It been to many years ago and I didn't test a lot of ammo. I think I tried 3 types of Eley. Eley Match black box was really good. At 50 yards I shot a 20 shot group I could just about cover with a quarter. I have a an unopened box of Black Box next to me on my desk. The price on the box is $2.42, so you can quess how old it is. None of the standard stuff like Reminton shot small.
