Savage Accutrigger now Rifle BasixII

I am considering replacing the my Savage Accutrigger with a Rifle Basics version. I am really annoyed with the Accutrigger and in my last competition it caused a lot of grief for me (even after adjusted it up from 12oz up to 20oz).
Should I stick with it or move on to the Rifle Basics version - target or varmint (I don't mind a little more pull, since it beats the kicking the trigger safety on the bolt close).
I like the Savage action, however, the trigger is really irritating me!!! >:(

Re: Savage Accutrigger

change it out with a rifle basix trigger and never look back. I myself have two savage target rifles, and could never get used to the accutrigger.

Re: Savage Accutrigger

I have also had much grief with my target accutrigger.
Ordered an SSS from Brownelle's, problems solved. And I didn't have to wait or receive bad CS mixed with a bunch of BS.

Instructions provided were not all that great, but with a little fiddling every thing is top notch now.

I have heard good reviews of the Rifle Basics as well as the new Jard. Might want to give that one a look too. ;D

Re: Savage Accutrigger

Another vote for Rifle basix triggers, both my Savages wear these fine triggers. I too did not like the accutrigger.

Re: Savage Accutrigger

rinoray: I'm just repeating what has already been said: buy a Rifle Basix. My model 12BVSS Accutrigger went bad at 1500 rds., had a SSS professionally installed, not happy at all with it, and just replaced it with the Rifle Basix-Sav 2. My 'smith has it at a really nice 8 oz. Should have bought the R.B. in the first place, especially after replacing the trigger in my Savage model 10FP with one several years ago. Did that one self-installed.

Re: Savage Accutrigger

Well after much thought & angst, I made trip to Midsouth and bought a Rifle Basix2 (based on youz guys feedback and some others) and installed it this evening. Easy install (about 20-30 minutes) and have it set at 8oz, safety works consistently (Passes buttstock bump test) without any deviation of my initial trigger pull weight settings, and I'm very pleased with how much adjustment it has.
Happy ;D

Cheaper than a BAT (which I'd like) and it'll really help me hold my upper body/head position on the mat and stock, not having to re-cock, that cost me a lot of points last time out. I'm already calmer.

Thanks SO much guys!
Here's a few pics of it finished up:

I am not knowledgeabl at all when it comes to any gunsmithing techniques. I bought a Single Shot Savage Stainless, right bolt left port 1-12 twist with a black composit stock in 6BR. Now I am sort of worried about the trigger? This is the second accu-trigger I own, Smokeless ML-II and the afore mentioned the ML-er II the trigger is fine so far? I am not a Target shooter, Just a plinker and Hunter. So I guess for my application it should be fine?

ourway77: If I were you I would not be overly concerned about the factory accutrigger. Basically they are O.K., and a big improvement over the typical factory triggers being put out by other manufacturers. Mine saw heavy usage ( over 1500 rounds in less than a year), but for the first 1300 or so, it was fine. The problem showed up when I would carefully close the bolt ( I never slam the bolts closed), and the firing pin would drop before the bolt was fully closed. Then had to reach up & recock. One time in the middle of a match, had an unintentional discharge as the bolt was fully closed. Not good at all, & I immediately stopped using it. It went to my very qualified gunsmith, he did everything he could, problem continued, replaced it with the SSS (bad choice), and it now has the very good Rifle Basix-Sav 2, which is proving to be excellent------- so far.

Hi, I have many savage rifles, all with accutrigger of one form or another, never had a problem, SO I THOUGHT!!
At the range the other day breaking-in
the new mod-12 6mm-br
kind of a click springy sound and no bang, triger was locked.
Same thing happened last day musselloading (dear) with the
mod.ML10 smokless muzzeloader w/accutrigg-Click-springy sound and no bang. Making the call to rifle basic.

Agree with you - mine was ok for the first 1000 rounds or so, then slowly it (trigger pull suddenly lighter) started to be more consistent. I did not want to believe it so just kept making the Accutrigger adjustment. At range practice was not that evident, however, it started to occur in F-Class match competition and I was being very careful to close the bolt slowly.
ourway77 - So I would not be concerned with it unless you are starting to have to adjust it frequently and it keeps lightening up to the point where it set the trigger safety or worse you get bolt close misfire (never had that and glad I changed the trigger before that possibility). You may never get there, plus the Accutrigger is so much better than the old Savage trigger.
Just for my needs not as good as a Rifle Basix 2.
